A new Nintendo Direct will broadcast on Wednesday

Nintendo has confirmed it will broadcast a new Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, February 9.

The 40-minute live stream will begin at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST and focus on Nintendo Switch games launching in the first half of 2022.

The live stream will represent the first Nintendo Direct since September, when the Japanese company re-revealed Bayonetta 3 and announced N64 games for Switch Online.

The company seems to be getting back into its usual routine for the marketing events, after a year on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2020, the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa reaffirmed Nintendo’s commitment to the Direct model, telling investors that it believed the live-streamed presentations were still an effective means of communication.

Nintendo will likely use its latest direct to showcase Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, as well as the upcoming adventure game Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The company could also announce a sequel to launch game 1-2-Switch, according to reports. Splatoon 3 and the sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild are also due out this year.

It’s likely going to be a busy 12-months for the Japanese company, with game releases disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic finally approaching completion.

According to Emily Rogers, a Nintendo insider whose information has matched VGC’s own in the past, the company could release a first-party title virtually every month during 2022.

“What makes this year interesting is how many Nintendo games are either finished or near-finished,” she wrote. “I don’t expect any major gaps in the release schedule. I’m curious to see the critical reception to an upcoming casual game. I doubt this sequel will win over many new fans.”

Nintendo announced this month that Switch is now officially the company’s best-selling home console of all-time.

In its latest financial results published last week, the company confirmed that Switch has sold 103.54 million units as of December 31, 2021 – up over 10 million since September – meaning that the console has now eclipsed Wii’s 101.63 million.

I think the poorly named, but totally my kind of game, Triangle Strategy will get 2-5 minutes. I'll take that.

I also think we're past due to get some kind of announcement for Fire Emblem, either a new game or remake. I'd be happy to see anything there as well.

I don't think we'll hear anything Etrian Odyssey related, as not enough people care. I would be one of the few that do though, so anything here would make my day.

Any Persona ports would be welcome. I give that very low odds. Might happen eventually but not tomorrow.

I've got little hope for Advance Wars. I was never into the originals but a lot of that game's popularity was online matchups, right? Nintendo seems to fuk that up all the time. Although Splatoon 2 worked pretty well but that was a very different animal.

Anyone else care much here? Not feeling a lot of hype this year

I’m a proud and loyal lifetime Nintendo customer but Im not expecting fireworks here. Still I’ll catch or Check it out later. Kirby maybe some MP4 and of course some chicken wings and diet Mountain Dew and then I am one happy camper.

Metroid dread is a masterpiece. The team did excellent creating this classic Metroid game. I guess fans thought it was 20 years too late. I went into it unaware of the story behind the 2D series having not played any of the previous 4. I played Metroid prime 1-2 and echos is easily in my top 7 games ever. Call it a fps or an action shooter whatever it’s my goat fps of any genre imo. Halo is cool and all but mindless shooting in comparison. The rooms in dread are all so detailed and beautiful. Yes Production value wise the studio did the best damn job ever in 2021. As you can see I really cherished my dread play through. Emmi some say I had to play the original 2d Metroid titles then they wouldn’t have given me so many fits. But I didn’t and so they did.

Every direct I'm hoping for a new Punch Out and I'm disappointed, hopefully this will be the one. The Batman collection will probably be a day 1 buy for me, never finished Arkham City, Asylum was awesome. I don't know of much on the near horizon I'm really pumped for, unless something comes from left field. BOTW2 obviously, but I bet that will be next year.

Front Mission 1 was a really great game, very playable even today. Wonder if they'll get around to some of the sequels that didn't make it over here
