Whenever I look at my daughter's old photo albums, especially those early years of her life, I find myself smiling with tears. My daughter is fully grown up, is healthy, happy, and still alive so what are these tears? I wonder.
The thought "What if something terrible happens to her" always terrifies me. Although kids fall down while playing, have fevers, break out a rash, suffer stomach aches, all those normal scenes in daily life, parents always imagine the worst.
The happier the time spent with my daughter is, the scarier the thought of losing her becomes. Usually, the thought goes away in a short while when things calm down. But this time, as a parent, thinking about Lauren and her family, I feel powerless and I'm really scared.

Nope. I have great life insurance, and savings. My family would be well off. It’s also easier to die first than be older and all your friends and family are dead. If I had children I would be scared to die, wouldn’t want them to be in pain and I wouldn’t want them to see me suffer if it was like a terminal illness. Also, I wouldn’t want to be a burden if I was sick. That scares me more, and like above said if I had kids I would want them to be able to be fully independent and ok without me

I'm here, just not sure what to say right now.
Just going thru the pics on the family page and having a hard time. Happy to see all the beautiful words from miscers who wrote something for her. I want all her family and friends to see how loved she is.

Without any sarcasm and in all honesty, she was the best man. Seriously the top 0.001% of people. Everyone ITT was blessed to have known her. Hope you guys do some good in the world because of her. If she showed us anything, it's that outlook is everything.

Also, I'm sorry about your sister. I didn't see that thread until now.
My sis is just a few months older than Lauren.
This event is prompting me to spend unapologetic time with her, being the kind of brother who isn't afraid to tell her how much I love her.
Only took me 33 years.

Whoever wrote this, love u man.
I only had the privilege of knowing Lauren online, and it was just that, an absolute privilege. To her friends and family who were lucky enough to know her in person, I promise you, she will not be forgotten, and she has influenced so many more lives than you realize in a positive way. The world is an exponentially better place thanks to Lauren Kelly, and her legacy will live on forever through her infectious kindness and positivity.

May she rest well in peace srs. I hope she enjoyed her time being here with us miscers.

And guys, you really shouldn't mention BB.com in the obituary. I dunno, but its too cold/impersonal.
I'm glad misc is secret now.

I do agree with that.
But you're right when it comes down to it, there's no shame in showing up as who we were in relation to her.
She had been here at least 6+yrs with over 10K posts here afterall.

I started coaching youth basketball for the city parks and rec league. Both my sister and I grew up playing.
Anyhow, I told her I was having a hard time lately in light of all this (it's also the anniversary of the death of the friend who showed me this forum back in 2004).
She came up to visit me from our hometown about an hour away. We basically had a brother-sister date.
I took her to dinner at this cool food collective with skyline views of Denver where we shared Greek and Asian dishes.
Then she came to cheer my team on for our first game of the season. We won the game by a single point after a clutch bucket from one of the players!
Sharing all that to try and illustrate a silver lining here.
I wish you peace and I'm glad you were able to tell your sister that you love her before she passed.
I just wish we all had done the same with Lauren before she left.

It's not mine, it's ours. If she made a difference in anyone's life here, let's do it for her.

I tried to help her when she asked me all that. She kinda reminded me of my own sister.
She was a decent human. I hope her family can endure.

Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

I know some people have been asking about making donations. I know there's a food bank link in here somewhere. I found the Nevada Humane Society. We all know how much she loved animals so I think this would be a good choice as well.
