I explained this in another thread. With late stage capitalism and hyper consumerism, along with tech and smartphones, everyone kind of molded into the same agrogonized, sterilized consumer to be more easily targeted and manipulated for trends and consumption.

Even in the 90s and early 2000s, we still had all kinds of subcultures and groups....Goths, emos, jocks, skaters, punks, scene, nerds, geeks, preps, outsiders, etc. You don't see that anymore, even in schools.

Now everyone just echos the same mainstream opinions, listens to the same generic mainstream music, watches the same mainstream shows on Netflix, etc.

Yeah "popular" and mainstream music all kind of molded into one now.....basically a mixture of autotuned pop/R&B/hip-hop with manufactured artists who aren't really necessarily talented but instead constructed from their image/social power. And all of it sounds the same, there's a lot less diversity in mainstream music. Sure, you can still find unique music from independent artists but its not in popular culture anymore.

There is no way to translate the 70s, 80s and 90s to someone that was born after 9/11.

They can only view these freedoms through the lense of never actually having freedom.

If you visit South American country it feels lawless but thats actually what it felt like in the US during the 70s-90s.

The beauty of it was that the family unit was still in place and Christianity was engrained in everyones lifestyle so while it was lawless it was a safe and manageable kind of lawlessness. I personally believe it was the pinnacle of any society thats ever existed. Its been nothing but downhill ever since.

Bro it's all the same now. There's nothing else really besides globohomo. The culture somehow completely changed in 2012 srs. That was the very beginning of clown world but it went into overdrive around 2016.

Punk rockers had purple hair, there were goths, and feminized was RADICAL since the 70s. Now we have whores and fat girls as feminists, but in the 80s is was normal girls in Hilary Clinton mode. You would get a sermon for holding a door for a woman. Women were using "Ms." which is like tranny talk today with the "pronouns" nonsense.

Most cool music at that time was made by gay men in New Wave bands. Being "Androgynous" was cool and that was due to a lot of anti-male hatred.

Boys did not want to make things in shop that's what druggie scum types did. Every normal guy wanted to go to college.

There was no social media however there was extreme clique behavior that was super obnoxious.

The US has been extremely degenerate since the 60s generation.

Elementary school in the 80's was far superior.
- playing Smear the Queer, star wars, tag, dodgeball at recess
- waking up early to watch Voltron before school, Star Blazers after school
- watching Challenger blow up on live TV (ok that actually sucked, esp living in NH)
- laughing our asses off at Garbage Pail Kids cards
- wearing Corduroy pants that would make a "vrupvrup" sound
- each grade had its own Apple computer
- every boy was in Cub Scouts and Webelos when scouting was cool

I was very young in the 80s but never experienced this in the 90s and early 2000s....you're claiming wokeness was just as bad as it is now and everything is still the same. Did it suddenly go away in the 80s and re-appear now?

Plus others on here said they never saw wokeness and feminists like today

Who was getting cancelled in the 80s?

Were white people told to shut up in the mainstream media too?

Were people claiming there were 60,000 genders?

Did 40% of the youth identify as LGTBQ+ as with Gen Z today?

Seems like you may be nitpicking stuff that wasn't really popular/mainstream

Actually Baby Boomers are still running the world today and hold the vast majority of positions of power

3 out of 4 of the S&P companies are led by Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers hold a VAST majority of positions in federal and state governments.

Its a shame they got rid of recess now in most schools. Supposedly they cited that it "gives them the opportunity to bully each other and engage in negative social activities such as teasing." Which is why they eliminated it.

I remember playing all of those in the early 90s in recess.

Teacher here, this is accurate.

We have a middle school of 1,500 kids. Tardy bell rings, and there's at least 60 kids late to gym EVERY DAY. fukkin PE, and theirs so many kids, they don't get a consequence, nor have to run extra.

ONE day they did a hall sweep and gave like 200 kids a Satruday Deten. 40 or 50 parents called and said " I ain't bringing my kid up there on a satruday" give or take the ghetto accent.

it's not all students, but 20% or so of inner city kids are just pure leeches. And we're a GOOD school in our district. can't imagine the low tier.
Just trying hard to not be a fat sack-o-chit.

I went to high school in the 80s.

I prefer the 90s music and culture but the only thing I can think about the obesity change is Starbucks as we didn’t have it back then. We had fast food places all over. I remember eating salads at lunch every day with a roll though. They gave out donuts for snacks and my friends had those daily without being overweight, and those friends didn’t play tennis after school like I did.

It must be Starbucks as most teens I know go to those coffee places daily. They go to those and/or boba tea.

And what happened to garage bands? Rock music? Where are the indie bands? No one gets together with their friends and plays music? Bars that have live music? After early 2000 music went seriously downhill. Austin City Limits line up for this year so far looks like shyte.

Obesity was GIGANTIC in most cities and towns I visited.

People had nothing to do but eat and drink beer. It wasn't uncommon for guys to polish off a case of beer a night.

I already had my first Masters Degree by 1991. I started my career in 1989, I was alive and an adult in the 80s.

You do not know what you're talking about but like a typical douche on here act like you do.

What we see now in the US started in the 60s.

When I was in third grade I learned about homosexuality because it was all over the news. When AIDS hit it was nonstop gay news and advocacy.

You hear less about gays now than back then.

The first gay sitcom was Love Sidney and that was on in 1981

I am curious about this.

I read a sociology report about kids from single families. It concluded that single mothers can't keep an organized household. So, the family falls apart and kids don't have guidance.

Also, women can't enforce rules very well and are poor at making them.

Rap music is caused by people who can't play instruments and don't really have much to say, so it's easy to create. If you grow up in a household with no direction that might be the music you gravitate toward. Meanwhile, a unified house with a father would be more inclined to have music lessons.

Unless the kid is highly motivated, he is not going to follow through with music lessons. An adult male is going to push and threaten a kid to continue since he is paying for it.

Also, women don't care about anything, so a kid could be play the guitar with his feet and a woman would be like, "That's nice" whereas a dad would be impressed, laugh, etc thus reinforcing the kid to do more.

That might be why rock music and music in general is dying.
