Dammit I Miss Blockbuster

Idk why but I have been thinking about it more and more. I am feeling so nostalgic it hurts. I keep having dreams about how I would go there on a Friday after my dad got me from my moms for the weekend. Just browsing around forever, because it was just fun to be in there, lot's of people in there feeling the same. Finding random sht to watch that sometimes sucked, sometimes turned out to be awesome. Becoming a fan of anime because of their oddly large collection. Getting video games that you had to marathon play over the weekend before taking it back. Grabbing some candy on the way out.

I wish there was something like it that I could take my kids to, so they could feel how I felt. Or even my wife for a fun date night home. The feelz

It's like once Netflix/Redbox came around people short-sightedly jumped on that as a complete replacement. As if the only reason people used BB was to rent movies and since those services made it less effort, BB was obsolete. The place had an atmosphere.

I remember riding my bike there with my dad and renting "Need For Speed: High Stakes" for PS1 like 8 times before he finally bought me the game.

EDIT: nostalgia HARD.... Watching this now.... Might buy a ps1 and beat some of these old games again.

1999 was peak earth.

The whole 'renting videos' brings back golden memories. Not just blockbuster, but local VHS stores, where there were floor to ceiling shelves full of movies, from known Hollywood titles to obscure low budget horror movies.

My bro and I would often just choose some random movie we knew nothing about - just going by the front cover. This was before internet so you couldn't just google a movie to see it's rating.

Yes, being around other humans was a big part of it for sure

Yes, defintely. Around me there was another, smaller chain called Family Video. It was pretty dope too.

My bro and I did the exact same thing. We just went of what movie covers looked coolest.

Yeah, always looked for the new movies, but then ended up going down the old movie rows just to find something you hadn't seen.

Also, going up to the clerk and asking if a movie you really wanted to see was sitting in the drop box....

That BB nostalgia is strong.

BRB bringing some young hottie to pick out a video for the VCR knowing we werenโ€™t gonna be watching it.

The Blockbuster in my old hood turned into an Amscot. Kept the same color scheme too so its a sad reminder. I always expect to turn the corner and see it as Blockbuster.

I lived in the center isles man. That's where the treasures were. All the new movies on the outside, I had already seen the ones in theater that I really wanted to.

I was an assistant manager at a Hollywood video my freshman year of college, and it was such a fun fukkin job. Even when we had to "do the wall" which was shifting the entire wall to accommodate new releases and downsize/boot aging movies. Would take hours, and you had to do it after hours.

Actually smashed 2 regulars, and 1 went on to be my longest running FWB.
