I recall early to mid 90s high school Im here to tell you what my poverty high school was like.....
Most sloots were super skinny or super fat not alot of thick big booty big teddies sloots like nowadays
Alot of fights and gang violence but nothing was ever filmed or pictures taken because no cell phones or security camera
Lots of sloots were finger banged and I got hand jobs and sucked off behind the gym because not many security cameras
We walked many miles everyday the bus routes were crap and good luck at getting my folks to get off work and pick up/ drop off
No Friday night lights like the West Texas folklore the football team was a joke every game was a total embarrassment
Teen pregnancy was only for the sloots or gang girls
The principals,teachers and coaches got away with alot more abuse and they were 100% arseholess again no videos or internet to expose them
the drop-out rate was high and basically any body who stayed in school graduated or junior ROTC and military was the future
It wasnt glamorous but it seems like now there was some fun memories

I blame Napster. American Idol and Youtube to a point, but mainly Napster.
The idea behind Napster was to enable musicians to share and market their own creativity, rather than leaving that up to the hated record companies. The people would then decide who's worthy of success, instead of some yuppie prik in a suit. Sounded great on paper, but when put to reality, it was the end of rock music. The net got flooded with talentless musicians, possessing ZERO creativity. The people sitting at home deciding who's worthy of success were all fukking idiots, so idiotic no talent performers became the dominant force.
Today their options are to be American Idol famous or Youtube famous. There is no more rock star famous.

Although my buds and I all looked the part when we were in HS at the turn of the millennium. Long hair, black band shirts, faded jeans, sneakers, shotgunning beers at recess, etc.

You're taking certain things that sure, you heard about, but wasn't even comparable to today in regular American society. How can you honestly claim that these days are "less woke" than the 1980s?

You're saying if I walk into a high school today it will be filled with less wokeness than in 1980s? I'll see less social justice warriors, and less people that identify as LGTBQ?

When I grew up in the 90s, I never even HEARD about this stuff in school. Most of the stuff I watched and in mainstream culture today couldn't even be made today without some kind of backlash.

Wasn't as awesome as being born in the late 70s....missed the mark by around 5-10 years but it was a lot better than today.

I'll take that over being born after 2001 though....no wonder most kids now consider themselves "depressed"

That is nonsense and not true.

We had a large number of too hard to carry books and it was nonstop homework including holidays.

People were concerned about kids having spinal issues from carrying all of the extremely heavy and unwieldy books.

The 80s was obsessed with homosexuals, AIDS, trying to prove homosexuality wasn't a mental problem or sinful, and so on.

The show All in the Family was a propaganda program, made by "elves" and was designed to assassinate all traditional values. That was on in the 70s through the 80s.

In psychology homosexuality was seen as a mental illness, but during this time there was a lobby, by homosexuals working in psych, to remove it. By 1994, the DSM IV was published and homosexuality was not a mental illness any longer.

Around 2004, the same people tried to get being a pee-dough removed as a mental illness, but failed.

So, there has been nonstop propaganda and perversion pushed by the media, important agencies, etc for many, many decades.

Probably the last low stress and confident era in the US was the 50s.

In addition, a big philosophy in the 80s and 90s was Post Modernism. That's the idea that nothing matters, nothing is true, and there's no reliable source of info about anything.

So, 80s kids were taught that you can't argue any point because you are wrong.

As a media propaganda and brainwashing tool, that's great.

So, there's media censorship, which is horrible. But a post modern mind goes, well, companies are allowed to censor, so from THEIR PERSPECTIVE it's okay! In Africa they cut clits off, and that's okay. The Africans on the other side of town are cutting clits off, and who am I TO SAY NOT TO!!

Few people are able to think logically and oppose any ideas with a post modern viewpoint.

We can see that in effect with nearly every topic. Only a bigot has an opinion or takes a stand.

A lot fewer people lifted heavy back then. It was mostly just football players and bodybuilders. Lifting wasn't done for vanity like it is now. The average guy under 25 wasn't jacked and didn't have a 6 pack. Now, every Jersey Shore knucklehead and his cousin are on some sort of juice because they think it'll help them pick up sloots. They all still skip leg day though.

Baby Boomers AND the Silent Generation still. This has been a topic of conversation among GenX for some time- that we are/have been skipped over. The people above us stayed and stayed/not retiring and then when spots have opened up GenX is marginalized as too stale/out of touch in favor of Millenials.

Still have recess in MI. All schools should have recess- once in the morning after roll call for kids to blow off steam and again around lunch. There was a study that having exercise first before class time improved focus and performance. There would probably be fewer kids being prescribed medication.

Agree. It was a very small fringe thing and didn't seem to be cohesive, nor promoted or normalized. I think bullying people sucks. It wasn't uncommon then for gay kids to off themselves rather than deal with the hatefulness. Surely there is some happy medium ground between real discrimination/hate and promotion/coerced acceptance.

Re:music

I vote that it was the corporate monopolization of radio that killed the variety of music we enjoy. There was the payola scandal earlier, but it wasn't until a few conglomerates owned multiple station in most markets that things got very boring.

I was six foot in fifth grade and found the whole thing cumbersome. In addition, the value of homework was overwhelming.

Back then we didn't know jack 5h1t about our teachers; we didn't want to know and they didn't tell us.
In health class, we saw videos of all kinds of sex diseases and talked about homosexuality.

Again, AIDS was in full swing at that time.
