Got my eye on the Lenovo Thinkpad ...is it safe to buy refurb'd laptops on ebay? This would be a beater laptop to travel with and just use for excel and word.

yeah its fine to buy used laptops. ive bought a few thinkpads over the years. in fact using one now.


my tips:

- take your time finding one with less wear, meaning not the nasty shiny grease spots on the keys ect. you dont pay much more for a like new condition vs worn out.

- the screens vary a lot on the models, i think all the ones youre looking at 1080p should be ips, even then if you take the time to look up the screen options you can get a better screen. i got a 1440p touch screen on my x1 3rd gen carbon. thinkpads could be made to order and you could pay more for upgraded panels ect.

- the i7 or i5 you wont pay much more for those than the bottom tier i3 so might as well get them.

- make sure its showing you the actual laptop you are getting, not a listing with like 20 available and a stock image.

- you can tell by the seller if its an individual it may have not been abused as much vs if its a reseller selling off lease corporate ones, if you didnt pay for it you tend to throw chit around more.

Of those i like the t460 there the most because its the newest and looks in best condition.

thanks brah.is there much of a difference in portability in the t460 vs the t450s. Also, do you know if the batteries can be replaced easily

assuming both models have backlit keyboards. both have HDMI ?? can they both be upgraded with more memory?

the s is slightly thinner but not a huge difference. you would pay more for the s brand new.
