They have sex to procreate. The complexity of our emotions (in comparison to other animals) would have a lot to do with it as well.

The big bang is not an attempt to explain how the universe came into existence. The big bang is referring to the rapid expansion of the universe that began to take place afterwards. The rapid expansion that is still taking place today, which is observable and measurable.
