His athleticism, size, and touch around the basket are generational, at least they were before the surgeries. Do you guys think it's lack of drive? The Pelicans haven't been the most stable organization, maybe he would do better somewhere else. You guys think there's no chance for him to right the ship?

So sad seeing his talent go to waste.

Can’t wait for the new CBA to come out where the owners tell the players to get fukd or lock them out

I appreciate players in terrible situations or wanting to try something new. But way too often these young stars just quit on the teams that drafted them and demand to go somewhere else. It’s a bad look for the league when you can’t turn around your franchise because players can shoot their way out of town whenever they feel like

You think he's just trying to force his way out?

I agree with everything. Ultimately though if a player wants out bad enough, there is nothing an owner can do, as long as someone else wants the guy (ala Ben Simmons). I guess the owners could collude into black-ballling a player. But aside from legal ramifications I like that as a solution less than I like the current state of affairs. Actually, it probably already happens naturally sometimes with journeymen players if owners feel like the player is more trouble than they're worth. Can't see it happening with a star though, someone will always pick them up.

I don’t have a solution, but guarantee a room full of billionaires will come up with something.

Maybe they’ll tie pay to play time, contract de-escalators if trades are requested, guaranteed draft compensation if you lose a player.

Those are some interesting suggestions. You're thinking farther outside the box than I was. In the past I know the players association really cared about guaranteed contracts, so I think the first one would be a tough sell. Ultimately, it's an agreement between the players association and the owners, right? So, everything will be on the table but it will come down to whatever those sides can agree to. Anything is possible it just comes down to what the owner's are willing to offer to get what they want.

I was always a Ja fan and knew that eventually Zion would succumb to injury issues... Just didn't expect it to be this soon

I do agree that the owners need to do something in regards to some of these dudes just sitting out whole seasons to force a trade from a situation that really isn't that bad. Bron was part of a horrible franchise.... He went through his contract and come free agency he went somewhere else. Zion, Ben Simmons, Harden, Kyrie needed to all do the same

As you well know I’m not a LeBron fan but I have 0 issue with a guy who leaves during free agency. By all means go where you want. It’s these ****gits who one year into a contract decide it’s easier to just sit out and demand a trade that I can’t stand. If you’re gonna sign the max contract, then see it through.

yeah especially zion. the guy was hyped to hell ever since his first year of high school pretty much. was probably surrounded by a bunch of dickriders and yesmen that never told him he was wrong about anything. so that gave him a head full of gas as if the world should revolve around him.

Take off your fan cap for two seconds and think realistically, NBA players at that level have 2 options:

1. Keep playing until your body is worn out, effecting your quality of life after sport.

2. Collecting that fat paycheck and sneaking out the back door.


If you were in Zion's position wouldn't you do the same?

Yes $1B is nice but most people would be more than happy enough with $100M and minimal wear and tear on their bodies.


I don't feel like people should be looking down on Zion for getting out early.

If anything maybe hold athletes who take their careers seriously in higher regards.

I can say with 100% certainty that some time after signing a $100M contract I'd lose my drive too.

That's basically like saying you'd keep on working after you hit the PowerBall.

True some would keep working but I bet they'd have a hairpin trigger as to how much BS they'd be willing to tolerate.

Pretty much as soon as your boss even looked at you the wrong way you'd walk right out.

I know I'd be on some "boss complained about me being 10 minutes late? I QUIT MF'er, complain about that!!".

I'd even be like "bruh keep going and I'll buy this store just to fire your ass" to the boss".

So don't act like Zion's situation is so far out of left field that you wouldn't be able to relate.

And yet it should be easier. as well. You hear about higher tier athletes all the time surrounded by personal trainers, massage therapists, dietitians, etc even in the off-season. Chit that wasn't as widely available 365 days a year 40-50 years ago. Zion can't even bother to stay in decent shape while "injured." Reminds me a bit of Eddie Lacy who admitted he was a foodaholic.

This argument makes sense in football but hardly any basketball players are heavily physically impacted for life after basketball. Oh sure, they may have the usual aches and pains but that's different from moving around like Earl Campbell or Jerome Bettis in your 40s. Or barely able to handle a football like Peyton Manning in his last season. As it stands, Zion hasn't even sniffed the crazy amount of money he would get with a max contract if he played well for 3-4 years and then told the league to fuk off after his extension. Just look at John Wall, he's making like 40+ million this season to voluntarily sit out. He also has a player option for next season for around 47 million. I don't even think he goes to the Rockets games.

That's the difference from a sport where most people's careers are over before they hit 30 and one where tons of players are getting 50+ million dollar contract extensions well into their 30s.
