I just finished the novel THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT and let me tell you...
Netflix absolutely knocked it out of the park. One of the most faithful adaptations I've ever seen.
I picked up the book since I liked the series and the book is almost always even better, that was not the case here.
If you've seen the series you can skip the novel, they are note for note the same.

It was a pretty good show imo. I did not plan on reading the book, but appreciate the perspective.

If a miscer says it's good maybe I should buy it (don't have netflix)

I'm probably petty but I disliked the fact they practically used Bobby Fischer's life as the main storyline (taking on the soviets single handily) without mentioning his name once in the entire show.
Also her dependence on drugs to be a good chess player at a young age is not something that should have any place in chess, IDFK why they had to include that at all in the storyline.
And I absolutely hated the boring fillers of her slooting it up & being an alcoholic, the show could have been so much better but the acting & chess scenes were 10/10.

When you watch Batman and he's taking out a bunch of guys with guns by punching them once and tying them up do you sit there the whole time discussing with your buddies how the "premise is ridiculous" and is actually one of the simplest examples of male empowerment? No... because that's f*cking nonsense.
I can tell you're a miserable person to be around. You've let the world get to you so much you don't even have the ability to enjoy what was actually a well put together story line with solid production.
"But but but.. it isn't a male winning the matches..."
Part of what made the story good is that it's meant to be an outlier. So the whole "premise" actually makes perfect sense. What movie or show ever focuses on the average? They're acknowledging that men normally dominate by doing so, and she even gives credit to the male who taught her in the show.
Now if the show started constantly degrading men and making them look like fools in order to push the agenda of female empowerment then you'd have a point. But it didn't do that. It basically just told a story without any underlying tones that men are bad and women are good. You live a sad life if you think anything with a female in it is a testament to empowering women.

One thing I remember from this show is how long it took me to discern that the one big-eared dude is dudley from harry potter.

*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*

It would be more apparent if they made a Rocky movie with a female lead beating the Russian.
Chess is the same in the sense that no woman is close to winning the world championsship and I donโt think we will ever see a female world champion.
That being said, because it is not physical it allows for a suspension or belief much easier than a boxing fight and to me, it wasnโt an issue that she was a female beating the male world champion. The drug abuse was much worse to me.
Overall it was a really great show, and one of the better Netflix shows the past few years imo. Definitely worth the hype.

Well filmed show, I saw some bits and pieces on youtube only.
But I didnโt like the idea.
Clear sucking off of feminism and woke culture. They combined life stories of Bobby Fischer and Judit Polgar, the strongest ever female player who astonishingly peaked at #9 in the world when the best women players struggle to make top 100. I think itโs possible to tell a good story without lying about female abilities in chess.

They had an opportunity to finally for once show a proud African Queen utilizing xer superior intellect over a majority ciswhitemale community of bigots and racists, undermining them and their privileged ways. This would have been literally Amazeballs and the most amazeballs thing I have ever seen, but NO THEY WOULD NOT DO IT. So instead it's just another white person running around and being white around other white people in a white world for whites and by whites and how whites.

I don't even know why I watched it because I figured it was be woke and heinous but it was in fact the opposite. She actually had men helping her and that liked her and none tried to rape her or anything lol.
I would watch a sequel if there was one.

She wasn't "good at chess" she's a RETARD who is good at chess.
She is not a normal person who enjoys playing chess but rather she's some kind of autistic type whose mind "sees the moves" and she's not really playing. She's like a low level Forest Gump.

LOL at "not understanding chess".... that literally means nothing in this argument. I suggest you stop watching movies/shows altogether and only watch documentaries. No, you just don't understand chess.
If a movie was made about a female weightlifter outlier that was outlifting the top men, you would dismiss it as ridiculous.
Chess is the same way, you just don't realize it because it isn't physical. Are there female outliers, sure, but there are prepubescent boys who are better than the best female outlier ever.

But hell I'll play your game since I don't "know chess well". I did play baseball my whole life though and watch many games now. You know how many female baseball scouts exist? very few. Most not good at all. You know the movie Trouble with the Curve? The one where an old baseball scout is struggling and has to rely on his daughter to help him scout? It was actually a good movie. The reason I can think that and was able to enjoy it was because I'm not an uptight ******* like you.
