Depends on what you're gonna use it for. If it's anti-person then any of your usual self defense handguns are fine. If you're going somewhere with big predators to worry about, then something different. If you're going to use it to hunt small game, then something else.
Since I don't know the purpose, I think the best all around gun for camping is a 357 mag revolver. The 357 mag has a great history against people, you can load up heavy soft point rounds for 4 legged predators and to hunt things like deer, and you can put mild 38 special solid rounds in for hunting small game like squirrels.

Won't it get hot as chit in the bed of a truck during the summer?

Absolutely cannot beat a good 12G Shotgun loaded with buckshot. There is a reason the Germans wanted them banned by the Geneva Convention. Nothing better at stopping a threat instantly especially in close quarters and if it's out of range of a shotgun it's not legal SD anyways.

I keep my 835 Mossy, 3.5 inch Mags under back seat when I go. Never had to use it tho... woods bears usually take off by yelling at them around here.

Glock 23.
Remington 870. If you have a trust setup or a cool chief law enforcement officer in your county, then get the police version with the 14 inch barrel.

Side arm: 1911 45 acp. Rock solid, reliable, and is a complete nail driver.
Main truck weapon: Pistol grip tac. shot gun.
Pistol will be more than enough and can handle any reasonable distance shot if you're in a bind. But since your in a truck bed, you also want the shotgun to spray the entire entrance incase there are multiple people.
Disclaimer: Avoid confrontation at all costs and try to camp in patrolled areas or in campgrounds/stateparks.

I would have said a stainless 38 or 357 revolver, but since you're in Alaska....
450 Bushmaster AR. The stopping power you need for giant fuk-you bears with the fast shooting you need for people.
