I don't know why but for some reason this made me think about Rotationplasty. Which is where they cut off your leg below the knee (usually due to a tumor or such like) and then sew your foot onto where your knee would be, but backwards. It is one of the most bizzare things I ever saw, but it serves a real and useful purpose.

Yep that's correct. Back in the old Ogrish days (before it became LiveLeak) there was a story documented about a girl that had cancer and had this procedure done (or was about to have it done). Unfortunately she didn't make it. It was a really sad tale and it's always stuck in my head.
