Should I lift my truck?



I'm talking big lift here. Would seem fun to go on adventures with friends & the lady, (maybe a dog in the bed), etc.

Anyone that can speak for this that currently has one/used to have one or knows a friend? Pros vs cons?


I've always had a superhero complex (always fantasizing about rescuing stranded people in floods that other vehicles can't reach) or getting to areas the average vehicle can't get to.

What are you thinking a "Big Lift" is.......like a 6" off the shelf kit or like 10-12"+

If the latter you're easily looking at $10-12k the lift and the supporting mods that are necessary....might even require custom fabrication.

I've owned 2 trucks (currently still own the 2nd) and just threw a leveling kit and 33's and let it ride. Both were/are 4x4 and never had a problem off road.

I'm also not a manlet with a tiny penor.

Pros. If your in an area with retard drivers you're way safer in a crash.

Cons. steep Ujoint angles, more expensive tires, higher center of gravity. Kind of a pain loading / unloading larger items in the box. Appliances ect.

good luck entering a parking garage, drive through ATM's and fast food take out. Also, good luck with your truck hitting low hanging branches. I have a leveling kit on mine (0-2" lift) and beefed up my suspension. No problems and it takes me where I want to go.

I have a 4 inch lift. Looks good. Lol at how mad soy boy lezbru drivers over you choosing to have something that looks good to you. No care what they think, and my wiener (their fav anti lift diss) tbh is probably bigger than most of theirs.

A lift as large as the video above? Absolutely not. In addition to the exorbitant up front cost, you will also have a lot of stuff breaking/wearing prematurely due to the excessive driveline angles and new stresses put on other components from setting up your truck in a way it was never designed.

a 1-6" lift within the limit of your stock truck that doesn't require massive fabrication/custom parts? Sure why not, those can be had fairly cheaply and makes a lot of trucks look better.

No. Let's be honest, your truck will spend 90%+ of it's lifespan on pavement and there are far better things you can spend that money on.

I had a lifted Ram 1500. 4" lift on 35s with 20" Moto Metal wheels. Did I love the truck? Absolutely, but I suggest the following:

1.) Do a lot of research on the lift kits. I made the mistake of getting one that cause awkward geometry under the truck resulting in my rack&pinion breaking. Make sure you purchase a quality one, and read up on additional parts that are recommended.
2.) Be ready for the tire bill. New tires will be $1500 and up depending on the size/brand. Do not get the sets that cost $800, they will wear out really fast and they are loud AF
3.) Big tires will cause more road noise.
4.) Almost impossible to rotate the tires yourself unless you have a lift. You MUST stay on top of the rotations.
5.) Once you go bigger/wider tires getting in and out of drive thrus is tricky/impossible sometimes.
6.) I lost about 2 MPG once I got it fully set up .

I do not think I would do it again. I would opt to do a front leveling kit and run 33's on 18" wheels probably.

I have enough $ and with the amount of working I do, you're not wrong. I do go off-roading every now & then. Decisions, decisions..

Cons are you'll go through front end parts like crazy. If you are going to do it, spend the cash and get a kit from Carli or higher end lift. If you go cheap you'll be going through track bars, alignments, ball joints, shocks, steering stabilizers, etc.
