It’s a decades old Cold War between the West and The East for control of natural resources and human tax livestock.

US is using NATO and Ukraine to get military bases closer to Russia, to control more oil pipelines etc. Russia always pushed back obviously, and likewise wants control of the natural resources. This was planned and practiced for by both sides for years. Some radical nazi elements in Ukraine killed some Russians too in those disputed regions, and Ukrainian government did nothing about it. Ukraine has been getting NATO training and ammo, Russia has been practicing. Now it’s game time. Unfortunately.

Great way to put it, however if they want to make more relations for Europe, Russia can't blame them for trying their best to better themselves. That's not a knock on Russia, but it's clearly obvious Europe has more to offer. BMW and Porsche have shut down production due to Ukrainian plants not being able to operate. That for example, is something Russia cannot offer but a German automaker can. There are just too many countries to make deals with rather than just one. It's like opening up a store/restaurant/business and your neighbor to the right is pissed off that you're open to your neighbors to the left.

Acts of perceived aggression from Ukraine.

1. Tarrif on pipelines from Russia to Europe that run through Ukraine.
2. Cutting off water supply to Crimea.
3. Committing to joining NATO. Ukraine doing so would block access to the black sea.

Numerous other smaller items from their perspective.

Huge deal for Russia. Would be a slow winding death of their country.

i dont think the US or any of NATO gives a ****, i should say gave a **** at this point actually, about putting bases or missiles closer to russia. fake news.

however, i do actually buy that us/eu would trick ukraine into partnership for control, or very favourable pricing, of natural resources. that sounds actually very plausible and definitely something that they would do lol.

to be completely fair though, im fairly sure it was russia who started the aggression on ukraine back in 2014 with crimea. russia or russian backed separatists, one of them... ofc that just a logical guess, i dont have any proof of who started the aggression and when.

Whatever babbling, justifications or reasons he gives, it's going to be mostly lies and smokescreens. I'm sure it all comes down to getting older and thinking he's going to make some sort of "legacy", as well as just being a giant distraction to draw attention away from all of Russia's problems and lack of relevance. Wouldn't doubt it's also about a bunch of internal politics and historical Russian KGB level maneuvering to see who winds up the next dysfunctional Russian leader and who gets a bullet in some prison.

90% of what Soviet / Russian leaders have always done is simply to stay in power.
