Also, if Putin wasn't such a dictatorial retard, he could have long ago lead Russia out of their backwater status, played nice in the sandbox and peacefully achieved 10x more than he's hoping to through this invasion. Russia could have turned things around and been a prosperous European nation and good world citizen and gotten the respect they want so badly. And his neighbors would never have thought of needing to join NATO at all.
Instead, they are locked into the same old corrupt Russian patterns and mindset. It's sad, really.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Ukraine hit the ship with one of their snazzy nato supplied missiles to Russia for it

So basically we're unable to share interesting info about the ongoing situation here or have any useful discussion because Russian shill and notorious troll memcop and his merry band of Russian shills aren't going to allow us to and are instead going to troll and flamebait the hell out of the thread so much so that it becomes useless.
It's sad that this forum cannot be admin'd any better than this.

Memcop just gave a decent little breakdown of some probable motives above.

Wouldn't doubt it's also about a bunch of internal politics and historical Russian KGB level maneuvering to see who winds up the next dysfunctional Russian leader and who gets a bullet in some prison.

You don't think this would happen without known consequences?
So no potential to weigh action versus consequence in this at all?
I think it pretty clear that Russia thinks this is worth it

from what i know there was enough talks about russia joining NATO at one point, but good old Putin did not want to go through the nato application process because he believed that was beneath the mighty Russia.
it is kinda sad when you think about it. the majority of russian people do want to be closer to the rest of europe and north america, he just wont let them.

i doubt we will see much fighting on the western front at all during this. they just need to take kyiv and kharkiv, if they do that, this is over.
