What are your favourite self improvement books?
Looking for some new reads. I heard some people on here recommending David Goggins - Cant hurt me, but I haven't read that one yet.
My favourites that I have read multiple times are:
MJ Demarco - Millionaire Fastlane
I first read this book around October 2016. Within 12 months of reading it, I left my current job which was going nowhere and got a new job. Worked my ass off there for 9-10 months and realised quickly that was useless too - and by August 2017 I left to setup my own company which I've been doing since.
I've read it again a few times since starting the company and read it from a completely different angle, which helped a lot.
The book teaches you the importance of making MASSIVELY high income in a short time, rather than the gamble of the "slow lane" which is hopefully retiring by 65. It also explains why trading your time 9-5 or 5days working for 2 days relaxing is a crap trade. And that if you can figure out a job where you can get paid 24/7/365, you will be able to earn exponentially more than 9-5.
When I first thought about my business, I create a list of "golden rules" that the business must have. I looked back on them a few months ago and realised I ticked off every single rule.
I'm trying not to write too much in case people find it boring, but I can go into more detail later on.
James Clear - Atomic Habits
Great book all about productivity, time management and the importance of habit stacking. It teaches you that small daily changes can become massive changes with time. Like a ship in the sea that changes it bearing by 1 degree won't make any difference within 30 minutes, but over 2 weeks - you will be in a massively different destination.
Tons of studies / science in this one and psychology.
Very motivating. Also makes you hyper aware of all your actions, who you are spending time with, what value they are adding (or not) and the importance of being aware of bad habits and replacing them with good ones.

Rhonda Byrne - The Secret
Bit of a cheesey book tbh and quite pseudoscience - but I genuinely believe in the whole law of attraction and that you get what you feel you deserve. Manifestation is a HUGELY powerful thing. If you don't know what you want, then you will never get it. I think people also have the tendency to be throttled in life by their self limiting beliefs. The power of positive thinking and gratitude is HUGE. I read this book and followed what it said with a bit of scepticism - but a lot of weird things happened within a few weeks of reading it that seemed coincidental.
E.g. Had old customers returning and paying big bucks randomly. Got given a free car by a family member (really random and never had something like that happen before), a few random big payments came through that were totally unexpected etc.
Tim Ferriss - The 4 hour work week
Completely reteaches you about everything you learn in school. School sets you up for 9-5 Mon-Fri. It teaches you about the importance of automation, delegation and outsourcing. How in our generation we have the advantage of social media and scheduling, free advertising and marketing, the ability to go viral. Teaches you that if you can hack your work to earn in a strong currency like USD/GBP/EUR and spend/live in a cheaper currency (e.g. mexican peso) you will never have to worry about money.
E.g. Who is richer, someone who lives in NYC on $250K/YR, but spends $150K on Rent and $50K on cost of living? or someone who earns $100K/yr in mexico, but only spends $10K and works 4 hours a week, vs 70 hours a week in a bank.

Millionaire fastline seems like an interesting one - what business did you go into from scratch? I suppose the difficult thing with that is finding a route to go down and sticking to it

I remember when I was young I'd see someone driving a lambo or ferrari, or someone who seemed rich and I'd be curious about what they did - to see if I could do something similar. Or at least, I'd wonder what they did - but I don't think it really makes a difference. I think if you do anything and you do it well enough, you will be successful at it. E.g. if you pick YouTube and you offer something of insanely great value then you'll do well.
What I'm saying is, you don't need to reinvent the wheel to make a lot of money. You can take an existing product and undercut them and you will outperform them. Or you can take an existing successful product and make it better - or market it better and you will be successful.
For me, I started off doing youtube with a fitness/personal training result and then ended up going down the content creation / digital product route. Now I create videos that I resale, which ship out automatically to clients via email. So they buy them from my website and get sent them automatically - which means I don't need to do anything. Also have OF account so monthly subscriptions coming in + tips on there. I've also got an underwear company and various investments (property, crypto, VLS100, Pensions etc) So quite a few income streams.
The changing point for me was divorcing my time from earnings. I don't sell time. I sell products/content/service. If I only earned as I worked, then I'd be limited to the 24 hours in each day.
My dog is whinning at me to take him out for a walk, but I can reply more in detail when I'm home later on.

Like I said though in the OP - Got given a free car, had old good customers coming back after a big break and sending a lot. Had a few random big $ cheques coming through the post. Had a 5 figure tax rebate. Smaller things too, like I wanted a big floor to ceiling mirror for my garage gym. Couldnt find one anywhere and then I saw my neighbour had one outside their house that said "FREE" on it.
Things happened with my relationship too with my wife where I'd want something but not say anything to see if the manifestation worked - and it did. She was also reading it at the same time and said one of the things she was manifesting was to go away for a hotel break in the UK to a spa (something we hadnt done for a while because of lockdown/covid) and she didn't say anything to me about it, but I booked one as a surprise for her - so she was surprised by that.
Maybe this was stuff that always happened anyway, but I just noticed it more because i was more aware and grateful.
I think on the contrary, that if you are very negative/pessimistic, always thinking the worst of people or scenarios - then you attract more of that. Like people who say "oh don't be silly, I can't afford that. Money doesn't grow on trees" and all those types of sayings. They usually are stuck in their rut and can't afford things. Check out the movie if you don't want to waste time reading the book. See how you get on with that. And if you enjoyed it, then read the book. It gets the concept of it across quite well

I like the misc and I've been on here for a long time (had a previous account too, so probably from like maybe 2008 or so time? when zyzz was posting on here lol) - buttttt now there are only a handful of like minded posters and people that inspire me and that I get on with well. That's why I stay. It's an absolute cesspit of incels, virgins and people with chips on their shoulders otherwise. It can be really toxic and negative - which I dont like, which is why I don't visit here as often as other places. Also I HATE HATE HATE how this forum never lets me post and always errors and deletes what im writing. It's honestly so chit.
I was thinking the other day though. I saw a Lamborghini owners forum and I thought - I bet that would be a great place to post. Like the misc section of an exotic car forum. If I want a Lambo in a few years (which I do. Manifesting a SVJ with Gintani exhaust) - then surrounding myself with like minded people who have achieved what I want would make the most sense - and surely I'd be able to learn the most from them. For example, I imagine most people on there have their own business or are at the top of their field to be able to afford a £200-300K car. They would probably be able to help a lot with advice on what to do with your money, reducing tax bills and so on.

I've been lurking misc during early 2010s, typical teenager trying to learn to be a man. A lot of threads were helpful and inspire to live life fully (beauu's diary posting for me lol), but I think misc doesn't compare to Fastlane forum in helpfulness. Current misc is bad. I signed up for the university/education crew, but it was dead even before the misc closed. A PUA forum I used to lurk together with the misc is much better in terms of positivity and lack of political trolls, maybe thanks to not having misc's notoriety.
Yeah cars forums are always cool, especially if it's a local community.
What do you think about Unscripted, Demarco's new book? Read it/gonna read it?
Actually I haven't check fastlane forum in years. Maybe last time was 2016-17, I bet it's still good though.

Proverbs.
Isaiah 45:22-23. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

+1 on Atomic Habits. For some reason the small part in the book mentioning how Vietnam vets were addicted to heroin when they came back yetvery easily kicked the habit as soon as they came back to the states, was what stood out to me the most.
Leaving the environment is crucial to kicking addictions and bad habits
Aside from that I have a dozen other self help books I haven't read yet. I bought Jocko Willinks book, but haven't gotten to it yet. I will say I really dug Jordan Petersons two books; Rules for Life and Beyond Order

I read this really interesting productivity technique called Pomodoro Timer.
The idea is that you do work for 20-25 minutes and then you take a 5-minute active break (ex. walk, jog, push ups, pull-ups, body weight squats etc) and then you get back to work.
And this might make you laugh, but I read somewhere that dipping your scrotum in ice water/ice bath for 3-5 minutes in the morning, before working out, or before sexual activity greatly increases your energy level.

Tell me this - if an Indian created a pill that cured Cancer or HIV - would they still be earning $500 a year? No.
If they created an electric car that had a 12,000mile range - would they still be poor? No.
You could have an IQ of 200 and work 20 hours a day flipping burgers in McDonalds - doesn't mean you will be earning £1M a year?

"Interview With the Devil" by Napolean Hill
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

I don't think those books will generally "make" you successful. However they helped me essentially have a "third eye" towards manipulative/bad people and it's much easier to not be swindled or suckered by marketing schemes when you know the psychology behind them. (Ded fkn Srs)
