No I don’t think so. But most fields in universities seem to attract certain personality traits that usually also correlate with liberalism.

If you pick a field like finance, for example, generally the “type” of person drawn to this is drastically different to the “type” of person drawn to a field like philosophy.


But I am not much education. Don’t take my word for it.

More openminded. Helped me become more grayscale/moderate. However this was before 2012; imo this is when university/college indoctrination really started getting heavy.

Probably more enlightened centrist. My social circle with the most higher education tends to be marxist in their politics but also fairly rightoid. As in, anti IDPOL, pro worker, anything that makes stronger families. Kind of interesting actually.

I don't really think so. I do think my degree has had a large effect on my approach to problem solving and in how I think about things, but my core values were not really changed. I think I'm pretty right leaning, but even that has a lot of different meanings today. My degree is in engineering, though, and it is probably one of the more right-friendly disciplines.

No, I have become more traditionalist and socially conservative.

I am surrounded by it to the extreme and I see the mental illness and mental gymnastics and petty childishness in grown adults (especially females and gays). Sadly, the closest things to conservatism in academia is usually economic conservative types (socially liberal) and liberal religious types (who are basically socially liberal pantheists at this point).

Yeah, and I'd say I'm pretty close to the same. I am so fuking tired of talking about men in dresses, I just want the people I love to have good healthcare and be able to provide for their families and it's maddening that actual Marxists seem to be the only ones pushing for this.

I'm more of a centrist - but I lean right.

I see liberals spend money on useless things; but also don't support cons that spend nothing at all. Both sides have benefits and risks.

You need to find a proper balance. Unfortunately, we have both political parties that have their own agenda they are pushing instead of tackling major issues.

Unlike Misc, I believe healthcare is a right - it should be paid for by taxes. Canada deals with healthcare provincially; but I would prefer it switch to a federal policy.

I believe a country should focus on the following three: healthcare, education/tech, military. We should be re-investing our money to improve our country, and not have it laundered in other ways to be spent atrociously (re: Real Estate).

Our CERB program which was used to help support people during COVID was taken maliciously by some, and most will not be paid back.

I also don't agree with free tuition.

Smaller government is better, since most costs get lost in administrative expenses, consultants, or program managers.

Not really. A highlight was in law school during an elective class taught by a very liberal woman (also a single mom) where we discussed affirmative action. One guy raised his hand and told the teacher that before law school, he went to the fire academy, but getting a job was next to impossible. He said the only person with a job lined up was a black woman, seemingly hired to fill a quota. He asked the teacher who she would rather have saving her from her burning house- him or the black lady hired because of her gender and skin color. Whole class was like

I was the same, but then when I realized how much millennials spend on consumed goods, I don't think I should be responsible for their lifestyle.

Wife and I bought a house before the bubble; and still have money for other things. However, we also live a very basic life to enjoy other things. When you challenge the notion that millennials should make sacrifices, they respond with "why should I? I shouldn't have to in order to enjoy life?". You know who else made sacrifices...our parents.

I don't agree with the way housing is progressing; but I also know people aren't trying to help themselves either.

Yes. Entered college, as most do, with a political ideology very similar to my parents. Was in college for a decade. Still socially conservative, but of the fields I understand best, (STEM) my views tend to align with the left. It had nothing to do with indoctrination. Course after course some of the beliefs I held were systematically dismantled with evidence, so I changed them.
