How to profit from the Russia blockade?

Turmoil = opportunity.

1. Long currency position on the ruble? If/when the war blows over it should recover. Has gone from 75 rubles per US dollar to 121.

Convert 1 US dollar to rubles today get 121 rubles.

Exchange rate reverts back to 75 then convert 121 rubles to US and have $1.61 US dollars.

Only 95 % it says here.

But sometimes what goes down doesn't go up!

"The same day, the ECB said it had determined that Sberbank Europe and its subsidiaries in Croatia and Slovenia were failing or likely to fail, and warned of a run on the banks."

I think its really hard to buy Russian currency or stock right now due to all the restrictions and sanctions and stock market closure in Russia. Russian companies and currencies are being taken off stockmarkets and trading apps.

You may have to be an experienced investor type to engage in those transactions. I don't know what kind of experience you have in this type of stuff, but BB.com may not be a good site for you if you really want Russian stock and currency.

It may be safer to just put more money in an EFT or something since there is currently a dip in the stock market. There was a huge dip in stocks when covid hit, and many ppl made lots of $$$ off of it by buying stocks.

I've never done a speculative currency trade of any sort. Lots of stock trading in the past. My Citibank account does allow me to hold positions in only a handful of top currencies which I've considered using but obviously rubles won't be there.

That's an idea. Buy a Russian asset of some sort. But easier said than done due to what JohnnyDeep said but also the holders aren't fools won't give their wealth away due to a temporary shock.

I think there is an American Russia based ETF that was still trading on robinhood last time I checked 2 days ago. Can't remember the ticker

It's Citadel. They said they won't accept orders on anything Russian. I hope you haven't stayed with Robin Hood and their master after the GME debacle.

Both Russians and Ukrainians who are overseas at the moment are pretty stuffed because they can't access their funds, which have also tanked with the currency. Also there's problems with flights, and Ukrainians face the prospect of going home to a warzone or staying where they are (with no funds ^).

So it's a good time to 'help out' a Russian/Ukrainian HBB who is in a tough spot overseas.

After all the sanctions quietly disappear in six months because the rest of the world needs the oil, wheat, and fertilizer that Russia is hording and companies notice their profits aren't as high this year. Gonna suck for Russia short term but as the other poster said, there will still be a Russia 20 years from now.

Thanks that sheds more light on the present situation. Given how hard sanctions have whacked Russia it's gonna be a wild ride in the near future.
