Harvard is world famous and has famous and wealthy (true wealth) kids going there. You'll be around type A people with insane connections and backgrounds you can't meet anywhere else. Say you're having lunch and sit down next to some random and strike up a convo, that person could be the son of a billionaire oil sheik or famous actor and boom you now have potential connections to a whole nother world of capital or even just to vacation with someone if you hit it off. Harvard dramatically increases the odds to meet someone like this. You have to be outgoing tho.

Congrats. But really make sure it’s what you want to do. Med school is just the beginning.

If I could do it over again I probably would not choose medicine as a career. The rewarding parts are drowned out by the long hours, stress, keeping up with current literature, and endless threat of litigation

My cousins who are dentists seem much happier than any of my old med school/residency friends

Seems like OP didnt rely on affirmative action to get in, probably would have made it if he was asian too

how does MCAT work
is 32 the highest?
so a max MCAT and GPA of 3.8 only gives you a close to coin flip chance of getting into med school if you're asian. lmao at american health care

I don't understand, if OP got high enough scores to get in even if he was Asian, plus publs, plus internships and volunteer work, what's the issue?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Congrats brah! At one point in time I’d say follow the money and take the scholarship but I had an almost full ride to law school and ended up absolutely hating the area so I’d say pick for your specialty and then quality of life, which means Cornell would be near the bottom for me since CNY/upstate is a chit hole.

Stanford isn’t an Ivy though since it’s not part of the athletic conference, just and FYI because the stuffy NE people will neg you for it IRL.

In the end though, you really can’t go *wrong* I’m happy for you!

This. Fuk cornell. Harvard, then Yale. Only two realistic options with the most upside (aside from scholarships)

Yes I'm black ( not African American tho) .
Just so you know, I was a 4.0 student in undergrad, scored in the 97th percentile on the MCAT, volunteered in multiple non profit ( thousands of hours), did and continue to do research in many fields and in prestigious institutions and have first author publication in decent journal just to name a few
To put things into more context, I come from a poor immigrant family and did have to work throughout college unlike most Asians, whites, or even blacks that go to these schools.

I visited hasarvaaard b4 ultimately choosing another school, if you read through enough of my posts you'll know which one, but that was my biggest reason for not going there. The pretentiousness was too much.

This is coming from a guy who wore a Harvard t shirt in high-school, was my dream until I met the people there.

This also sums up how I feel. It pretty much embodies how I was raised and what I have learned in life -- you might not always start off with the best situation, but hard work pays the fuk off.

This might not apply to OP (but wouldn't surprise me if it's true for him as well), but I saw a quote in another thread that I somehow learned early on: your friends are who you become. I grew up poor, but naturally found a way to become friends with and surround myself with people who were naturally smarter than me and also busting their asses to be the best. It helped me put in the extra work to keep up and succeed. OP is definitely the type of person I would have wanted in my crew.

I can't wait to see where life takes you and all of your future success, OP.

Going to try to remember to rep OP more in the future. This thread fired me up in a good way. A true feel-good story.
