Had a dream I was getting kidnapped by some guys with a chloroform rag. Didn’t have my pocket knife on me. Wasn’t good. Anyways can you UK guys carry a pocket knife legally for protection?

No-you can get five years in prison for having a knife in public. Only way you can have one is if you have a job where you need to carry them or if you bought them at a store & they are sealed up in the packaging. Supermarkets have stopped selling them now though-too many gang members & Islamic nutters go in & buy them or more usually nick them, then use them on people.

The feral, backward street thugs will carry foot long machetes as they have zero respect for law and order and no grasp of civility.

Otherwise, for the law abiding bipedal majority, you cannot a carry a blade over 3 inches in public without very good reason.

In the U.K. you’re supposed to just let the nice man kill you/take your possessions.

A lot of U.K.cels are actually okay with not being able to own a gun to protect your home in the event of a robbery. Mind boggling. If you try to rob my home, you deserve to be shot.

Can't carry anything, otherwise you'll face heavy jail time.

Meanwhile at least 1 person is stabbed every day in the capital city.

Police are doing a tremendous job here.
There is but one path....we kill them all.

You don't need to generally-most of the stabbings are black on black gang related.

Nobody needs guns over here-unless you are a gang member, a farmer, belong to a shooting range club or some gun collector they are totally alien to us. I have only seen one gun in person & that was an old world war relic while helping to clear a house in the late 1980's.

And they are nearly always black guys who are mixed up in gangs/crime. The average citizen is highly unlikely to be stabbed.

Yes you can carry a pocket knife (we call them pen knives here) under certain conditions.

A quick Google told me the conditions are:

* The blade is not fixed or does not lock into place
* The blade is 7.62cm/3in or less
* The blade does not open with any kind of automatic mechanical means (such as a flick knife or a spring loaded stiletto style knife)

I haven't double checked but the above sounds correct.

If you go camping it would not be unusual to have a pen knife. I keep a Leatherman knife in the car which has a couple of different blades as well as a nail file, screw drivers, etc. It's more of a tool than a deadly weapon, and I'm pretty certain this wouldn't be illegal.

Correct. There is no point US members debating with UK members the pros and cons of being allowed or not being allowed to own firearms. Two completely different cultures. I get why they are needed in the USA and what the benefits are, but as Jimbob said we do not need them in the UK. The vast majority of people in the UK (I would hazard a guess at 99.9%), myself included, have never seen a real firearm and probably never will.

Lol at UK cells, "it's statistically not likely I'll even need to protect myself". Imagine being that cucked. I use knives all the time in my day to day activities too, must be where your messed up teeth come from, having to gnaw on things instead of cutting them like a normal adult. UK will be all but useless in the next world war.

Great, we use knives as well-in the kitchen. Most people will never be attacked, because we don't have an obsession with guns & most don't have an obsession with knives either. Besides which if somebody attacks you & you pull out a knife & they get it off you then it will likely end up going in you, not them.

We live in a fairly peaceful country. People don't walk around shooting at others, or stabbing them randomly. Pretty much all gun & knife crime is gang related & in big places like London, Birmingham, Notts etc & involves Blacks & Pakistani's/Bangladeshi's. Very few white people walking around will ever encounter such things-especially if you live in smaller areas.

Should I also keep a bazuka to hand in case someone drives a tank into my garden? Statistically it's unlikely, but not impossible. And we can use knives around the home, for cutting up meat or pruning hedges. But I've never had to undertake these activities away from home so have never felt the need to walk around with a 6 inch blade. A pen knife in the car is sufficient for opening an awkward packet or something along those lines.

Correct, we also don't need metal detectors in our schools, in case Jonny turns up with his dad's gun. Like you said, the vast majority of knife crime is gang related. Sometimes it's shocking when it's a 12 year old kid that is stabbed, but more often than not it's still gang related.

And, if I went out now and someone pulled a knife on me (very, very unlikely) demanding my wallet, what am I gonna do? Pull out a bigger knife Crocodile Dundee style? Hope that I can stick them before they stick me? No thanx Jeff, I have like £10 in my wallet and I would sooner see my kids again.

Like thingy said if it's 3" or shorter and you glue the locking mechanism shut you can always carry.. and you can have whatever kinda sword in your house. Never had a gun pulled on me till I got to Spain.. though a couple pals had had em flashed on em in Notts. Most gang dudes wear a few layers so knives can't rip through em so easy, an old housemate of mine was always in double joggers and wouldn't go to Brixton with me cause he'd probably get killed.

I wouldn't mind living in their tiny, peaceful country. Been thinking about it recently. Shows like After Life, Sick Note and Love Sick make it seem so cool to me. Probably not THAT cool, but different than US, which definitely has some grossness to it.

It's okay, the main disadvantage is that it's small, our houses are small and super expensive.

Yes, this is another cultural difference between the UK and the USA. We don't really do hunting here, not in the same way. In the USA, you can go out into the wild and there are animals that will literally eat you. In the UK, the worst that could happen is that you accidentally step on a hedgehog. There are many reasons why guns are relevant in the USA but not so relevant in the UK. As much as I prefer guns to be banned here and feel safer as a result, I respect your right to bear arms. It's pretty much the same with knives, I dare say there are exceptions for carrying big knives here if it's part of your job.

I guess it's down to being a tiny island and having less land. I seem to recall some roads in the USA, the house numbers go up into the thousands? The average street here doesn't go much above 100 lol
