What was the last newish movie you watched that was genuinely good?

The fast 9 thread made me think of this, with most new movies coming out being absolute chit tier.

What was the last movie you saw that you thought was genuinely great?

For me it was Ford v Ferrari. Being a car guy it definitely stood out to me, not sure if it would for someone who wasn’t into cars though.

Dune 2021. And that says more about the state of films than it does about that movie. I'm gonna watch The Batman soon though so I'll see. Just really shocking how bad most movies are. Does anybody have any info on good films coming out later this year?

I heard mixed reviews on Dune so I hadn’t given it a shot yet.
Can’t comment on the Batman as I’ll wait until I can see it free.

Man I had a lot of hope for this one but it was a bit of a let down imo.
I wonder if it would be better on rewatch. That’s how Den of Thieves was but I think it’s partially because of how chit movies have been recently. Halfway decent movies from years ago seem awesome compared to the majority of what’s coming out now.

Both Belfast and Dune were wonderful. Belfast especially, my gosh. 10/10 film.

last night in soho was really good. That and dune were really the only movies I remember being a big fan of last year.

Just re-watched The Mask of Zoro. Empire of the Sun (Christian Bale) as a child actor. Grizzly Man (fukin nuts) guy lives with Grizzlys.

Other recents:
Nightmare Alley was decent, but only gave that a 7/10.
The Alpinist is worth a watch.
Palm Springs was funny.
