Does anyone else really exist besides yourself?
Sometimes when I'm by myself I think that life only exists as far as my vision sees. It's hard to imagine what others are really doing if they aren't in my sight. For example, think about a person you know or a famous celebrity... what are they doing at this exact moment you can't see them? News and videos are presented to us to show "reality" when in fact it's like a movie. It never really happened.

You will never observe anything outside of your own conciseness. That sounds interesting and is fun to think about, but does it impact our day to days? Nah. You 'see' "reality" in the same parts of your brain where you "see" memories. We learn this idea of object permanence at a young age. Shortly after 'peek a boo' looses it's interest. We learn things will stay where they are, and be there when we come back to get them. Babies response to peek a boo is a result of them literally wondering where the fugg you just went to.
So you know things and people at least seem to exist beyond the ability of your physical senses to detect. When we don't see someone for a long period of time, they look different. Things must have happened to them, even though I wasn't there to witness it. There is no way to prove that though. The way our brains physically work, the memories and observations can be planted in there at any time like AI. One day, this will happen. We can't prove it isn't already happening, and that in this second, all of our memories are being observed for the first time, along with the sensation we have made those observations before.
Now all because we can't prove it is not happening, does not mean we should believe it is lol. Of course.
As far as "being beside myself", are you referring to disassociation? Because if you are then yes, and I would love to talk about it, and hear your perspective on it.

This is basically solipsism. Everyone goes through this daydream at some point in their life and most can never completely wipe it off the table as an at least not-impossible philosophical option.
Of course, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny in light of all the hard work we've done in the fields of consciousness, theoretical biology and cognitive science over the last few decades. It presumes Cartesianism and representationalism, which are, respectively, the views that mind is some sort of private, interior theatre contained within ones head, and that the essence of mentality is in brain-based sematic or symbolic representations of an external world out there.
I work in the field of 4E cognition, along with process structuralist theories of evolution and biosemiotics. The joint implication is that the locus of mind is not representation or some interior theatre butrelationsthat span the brain-body-world system. The mind is a transactional phenomenon that incorporates the world and other agents/people.
I know that was long-winded but it's a useful means of ridding oneself of these useless masturbatory daydreams.
