Why do biracial people consider themselves black?

Why take the hard road and not take advantage of your white privilege?

You don't have to be "black" because your skin is darker.

If racial privilege exists I would believe it exists with the race which has easier college acceptance standards, access to more scholarships, easier employment due to diversity quotas and the ability to call anything they don't like as "racism"

It actually isn't. The girl I referred to earlier was talking to me and is now wondering if she made a "mistake" by putting him white on his birth certificate. The kid is at the age now where he is wondering why he is darker that most in the family...they're Sicilian and her dad is kind of dark so the kid thinks it's from him.

This isn't really true actually, even though it's probably much more common. I have a coworker who has two black parents, but is relatively light skinned - I think she said she has a grandparent on both sides who was white. Anyway, she told me one day that she doesn't like wearing all the African-themed clothing because she doesn't really identify with that side of her ancestry. She was raised around white people and gets along with/likes white people, etc. Interestingly she has a black husband and black kids, so I don't know how that figures in.

She said the black kids weren't very nice to her growing up because she was raised by successful parents.

Now we're pretty friendly... if we didn't know each other fairly well, she probably would have never told me all that (because it's a pretty unpopular thing to say, let's be honest). So I don't know how many black people you hang around, but maybe it's more than we would think who feel that way.

Because historically that was the classification(1%) and they have mirrors at home.
Historicaly there was a term called "passing" and the brown "paper bag test', but we are in 2022 and people get to decide.
Some use it as a sense of pride while they struggle to figure it out.

Light skinned people are often made fun of and rejected by other black kids growing up, so they over compensate.
