Russian military is hilariously corrupt and ineffective, their tech is old and crappy and they can't even replace their "modern" tech because they lack the necessary funds and parts, especially since the sanctions. If you've been following events, they've repeatedly made "here's our newest Wunderwaffe" announcements with crap like the Armata tank and the Su-57 jet, which was supposed to compete with the US made 5th generation jets. They have maybe ten of each on a good day despite announcing hundreds and thousands of tech.

Then we get the lulzy "badass space marine Russian turboarmor" announcements

https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidha...h=7c408aa62cdd

- so a biker helmet with some styrofoam and removed optics, probably sold off to a European/American airsoft player.

Also some meme tier announcements

They simply haven't faced a professional army with somewhat modern equipment so far. Ukrainians have been receiving training and some equipment since 2014, and of course a lot more during recent times. Russians thought they would roll over like they did the last time in 2014 and they could just overwhelm them with numbers etc.
OKAY SO WTF HOW DO YOU FALL FOR YOUR OWN PROPAGANDA???

Russia knows when its bullchitting

Its like bluffing when you've already seen someone elses hand and they have a flush. It makes no sense. Yes men or not. This is the most idiotic campaign I've ever heard of. Russia deserves to fall simply because of this.

listen, this is what I've gathered so far, I don't have time to sit down and trace every piece of info like LL so I don't mind the references

-russia preps 150k troops on ukraines border, makes demands. This is characteristic of a country preparing to invade, holding a gun to their head.

-Russia invades, apparently fukking drives tanks on streets and flies helicopters in the open just letting anyone who feels sassy can javelin them as they please. Ass out indeed.

-Russia starts bombing schools and theaters, because they've forced guerilla warefare. I know, where else are the ukrainians supposed to go. By the same token, where else are the russians supposed to bomb? Something they should have foresaw happening if they were going to be so fukking stupid as to let the war get to this point. Its one thing if the russians have the where-with-all and force to surgically overthrow Ukrainian power, its another when they knowingly go in there like a hamfisted drunkard.

-ukrainians with no modern warfare experience somehow start holding a line

do these tactics and movements sound like the russian forces that fought guerilla style against other adversaries supplied with US weapons? It doesn't. They're doing dumb chit. I am not impressed with Russia nor can I say I support their tactics. Because no one can. Because they don't have tactics. They're fighting like Americans but without the intel support or other high tech systems.

Their movement at a tactical scope have damned them. There has to be someone in Russia who has seen this and is going to change the fukking manual.

Is there a political force inside Russia that has hampered their strategy?

#Ukrainian military slain Sergei Mashkin, the commander of the separatists' "#DPR" intelligence unit.

Seems like Ukraines strategy is just to snipe off Russian generals and commanders one by one lol

They have thought that they could redo 2014 on a countrywide scale: roll in quickly before anyone can do chit, kick out gov, install new gov, defectors defect, people will hail them as liberators, and there will be some delayed limp dik reaction from the West.

Source: Russian state media's own article that went online iirc on the 29th February, but then of course it had to be scrubbed, fortunately we have an archive:

https://web.archive.org/web/20220226...775162336.html

A new world is being born before our eyes. Russia's military operation in Ukraine has ushered in a new era - and in three dimensions at once. And of course, in the fourth, internal Russian. Here begins a new period both in ideology and in the very model of our socio-economic system - but this is worth talking about separately a little later.

Russia is restoring its unity - the tragedy of 1991, this terrible catastrophe in our history, its unnatural dislocation, has been overcome. Yes, at a great cost, yes, through the tragic events of a virtual civil war, because now brothers, separated by belonging to the Russian and Ukrainian armies, are still shooting at each other, but there will be no more Ukraine as anti-Russia. Russia is restoring its historical fullness, gathering the Russian world, the Russian people together - in its entirety of Great Russians, Belarusians and Little Russians. If we had abandoned this, if we had allowed the temporary division to take hold for centuries, then we would not only betray the memory of our ancestors, but would also be cursed by our descendants for allowing the disintegration of the Russian land.

Turns out that

A: Ukrainians decided to stand and fight
B: the troops dropped off at Kiev and the Spetznaz sent in Ukie fatigues to kill Zelensky were slaughtered
C: the preliminary reports made by Russian analysts on the situation and sentiment in Ukraine was total bs
D: Russian army is a complete chitshow

Their strategy didn't hamper because of some inside opposing force, it gof fuked up because in an inherently corrupt system where positions are awarded based on loyalty and gulaging a messenger is a very real thing, people will be quite reluctant to tell their superiors that their plan might be retarded, half the stuff was sold off to whomever and the Ukrainians might not be that friendly after all.

yeah but a true world power could react tactically and turn this around. We're not seeing that. There's a lot on the line here. Putin is single handedly giving everything to nato.

In before crazy, lunatic, paranoid lol
If starting WW3 was the plan here, Putin could have saved a lot of time and effort and simply invaded Poland instead, in fact he could have kicked off by tacnuking Warsaw, that would have gotten everyone's attention.

It's simple, Putin started believing his own press. Do you remember when the US President wanted to hear that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Then low and behold, US intelligence found really strong evidence of those WMD. Now consider that Dubya, for all his faults, wasn't going to have you arrested and tortured for telling him no, not something you can guarantee from Putin.

Putin wanted to hear that that the Ukranian people longed to be back in mother Russia. Putin wanted to hear that the Ukranian military couldn't stand up to Russian power. Putin wanted to hear that this would be a 2 week campaign. Putin wanted to hear that the West is weak and decadent and would apply some ineffective sanctions and send a few bandages to Ukraine but otherwise do nothing. Well his subordinates heard him loud and clear, they told him everything he wanted.

The US military is unusual in that fighting conventional wars and winning quickly while taking minimal casualties is very difficult. The absolute textbook curbstomping that the US delivered in Iraq, twice, is not something any other power could have emulated.

These divisive events really bring out the mentally challenged and highlight how utterly incapable most people are of being objective. It's very interesting to watch, but also incredibly frustrating considering that innocent people are dying because you're all so retarded and easily manipulated.

what's your objective take on the situation. Most people are so anxious to stake a political line they don't care about facts.

He blundered extremely badly but leaving aside the moral angle, he wasn't crazy to imagine that the West wouldn't apply sanctions of this ferocity and he wasn't crazy to think that UKR could be beaten fairly quickly, since Western opinion at the outset was much more pessimistic about their chances over the short term. So I can see how he made the mistake, problem is that the consequences are extremely bad for Russia and potentially catastrophic. He should have taken a leaf out of Xi's book and been more patient.
