They look to be at least my age. No way they're under 30 which is more than enough time for an adult to either decide what they want to do in life and be established or be accountable that they failed to do so and not try to blame it on your evil landlord or that houses are so expensive. They're literally complaining about rent going from $1,000 to $1,400 while the dude has a job that makes upwards of $85,000 a year. What did they do with all their money before 2022 so that they are in a position not to afford a $279,000 home?

Jacksonville Fl is not expensive.

also this. The average home is 2.5x larger than it was in the 1970s and families are smaller.

Just lol at the corporate overlord saying younger Americans dont want to own anything. literally the 'own nothing and be happy' meme.

Wtf is even the point of wage slaving if this is the new standard of living. better to just rot
This exactly what govt should regulate and stop corporations from doing, but they're too focused on gender identity.

A home is typically a family's best investment throughout their life. That investment is now a corporate asset.

But previous generations didn't have to do that. You're expecting young generations now to have a lower standard of living.

Even small homes are becoming unaffordable now too.

Dude 85k is not a lot compared to prices and you don't know how long he's even had that salary.

Rent going up $400 or 40% is a crazy number. Not many people can just absorb that

I definitely agree that rent going up 40% is a ridiculous increase but again $1,400 is not a gigantic number to pay in rent for 2 people in 2022. These people aren't 22 years old (or if they are the age reaper really got them) and they live in a city where the average home still costs $280,000.

The article showcases 2 people who obviously don't know how to budget and then talks about how everyone should be able to buy a home in the suburbs with a white picket fence like in the old days. In the old days that house was a 3/2 that was 1,200 square feet, the family probably owned 1 car and the dad put up that white picket fence himself. Nobody deserves a 2,700 square foot home on half an acre with a $12,000 fence, definitely not people who can't manage to budget on $85k/year.

Average Size of US Homes, Decade by Decade
It's nearly tripled since 1950
1920: 1,048 square feet
1930: 1,129
1940: 1,177
1950: 983
1960: 1,289
1970: 1,500
1980: 1,740
1990: 2,080
2000: 2,266
2010: 2,392
2014: 2,657
The average home is twice as big as it was in 1970, so why shouldn't it cost way more? In January of 1970 the home price to median income ratio was 4.42. Right now it is 7.46. Since homes have doubled in size why shouldn't the cost increase also double? That is a 168% increase in the home cost to median income ratio, meanwhile the size of a home has increased 177%. Sounds about right to me.

I don't know where you live but where I live 1300 sf homes are too expensive also. High 300k or even 400. People are not holding out for mcmansions.

In terms of the cost, $1400 for 2 people isn't crazy but that woman isn't working remember she's in school. That's too much for one person that doesn't make at alrsst 100k

The dad only owned 1 car back then because he was the only one who had to work. Not possible now

But the price of the smaller homes are still too high right now. My house is 1300 and way overpriced for the size. I wouldn't be able to afford it if I had to buy it again right now.

It’s by design. The Great Reset is all about elimination of property ownership.

That’s why Black Rock has been buying up homes, turning them into rentals. And buying up land, turning them into solar farms.

Stupid mfers selling their homes to corporations without a care in the world that sooner or later they will be forced to rent a home, at the very least their children and their children’s children will be.

Houses on Moncreif rent for $1200+ these days. If you lived in Jacksonville, then that should tell you that it ain’t cheap anymore.

It's very hard to pass up. Just had a family member sell their house. Multiple offers over asking price. They took the 2nd highest offer which was 4k less than the highest, but required no inspection, and was cash.
Thankfully it wasn't Blackstone or Blackrock. Just a retired couple wanting out of California. I think buying a house sans inspection is insane but apparently lots of people are doing it.

It's the norm where we are now. All it takes is a few people offering it and basically once people realize they don't have to risk an inspection adjusting the price, why wouldn't you jump at it even with a slightly lower offer. And your inspection is only as good as the inspector. My stepmothers' son was studying to be one and he's a complete moron, the barrier to entry is zero.

Lol at thinking this institutional asset purchasing and being a homeowner is a thing now that can't be achieved. Homes in US cost phuck all to make and theirs still plenty of land. Real Estate agents may have the upper hand at the moment but soon or later they will be sucking dick for leads. Just the cycle of life boyos.

If people in US can't buy a home, they will just move elsewhere. Homes are not that expensive in the US and you don't even need the money you just need a mortgage. What people won't be getting is the same quality home where they grew up if they are single, thats where people go missing, all my friends have done better and will do better than there parents, if they are in a relationship, the caveat is taht you have to ram the same pussy forever....no thanks, give me a flat. they grow up in Palo Alto and expect to be able to get the same home as a single person, and still travel the world and buy nice things, when their parents never did that. They can still get an apartment on the outskirts though.

Thats the difference.

Just lol at thinking some lumber which a bunch of El Salvadorians put together in 8 days is a "rare" asset.

What is going on now is identical to 2007 Crash, Property doesn't go up and compared to other assets, its actually not that great of an investment.

Honest question

How does this end?

Rent and housing is going up faster than wages

Inflation raising faster than wages

Living alone is becoming impossible in the city

People with good jobs are going to end up having to move to the ghettos to afford a place

This is just insanity

Being single with one income in this housing market is just absolute brutal unless you make over 100k
Future P.A in progress
We're all gonna make it

sleep tight pupper
