AirBnB or Hotel in Athens/Santorini???

What the verdict? Air Bnb's seem cheaper just wonder if they're legit? Scammy? etc? Never used an Airbnb internationally.

Dates of trip: I'm debating extending a few more days if there are things worth filling the days with.
4/28-5/7
or
5/5-5/14

Plan: Land in Athens, fly straight to Santorini. Spend 2-3 nights in Santorini, fly back to Athens, spend rest of the time there till we go home.

(If anyone is wondering about the last thread. I was able to talk my girl out of the all inclusive idea. So now I get to plan something I actually would like to do.)

If the airbnb is reviewed well, you'll be fine srs. Look for 4.5+.

I've airbnb'd in like 10 countries, and always had a great time.

That being said, if things do go wrong, they have the worst customer service ever.

It shouldn't get to that point though.

IMO you don't need longer than 2 days in Athens.

The islands are way better.

Air BnB's are legit but some do cancel on you last minute. If you want to cook any of your own meals/have a little more space they're the way to go. Slightly more of you may be expected upon checkout compared to a hotel and it's easier to get recommendations et al at a hotel.
My experience in Greece was some places looked fine on the websites but were disappointing in person. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for.

Hmm I had this concern when looking for things to do in Athens. So lets say I cut back my nights in Athens and add more to the islands, do u recommend adding all the days to stay in Santorini and finding stuff to do? Or is there a 2nd Island you would recommend? It will be me and my girl + her mom/moms friend. Me and my girl would like to go spend a night or two drinking and slightly partying (just us). But definitely more into relaxing, food, sight seeing, etc especially when in the group of 4.

I avoid Airbnb like the plague. They can cancel on you last minute or they don't have the amenities claimed. I recall booking one in Madrid, making sure it had AC. It did not have AC during the biggest heat wave of the decade. Pretty over Airbnb at this point personally.

Mykonos or Crete. I believe they both have bigger airports than Santorini too. Should be a short ferry from either/or to Santorini.
Mykonos has a legendary party beach. Crete is huge so tons to do there depending on what you're looking for.

Stay central in Santorini or it will be very quiet and hard to get around. But all in all Santorini is awesome. One of the best days of my life was renting a quad in Santorini and buzzing around to all the beaches of the southern part of the island (red beach, black beach, white beach).

I think the best beaches were Mykonos and the South part of Santorini. If you don't do your research and seek out which beaches are actually good sand to swim in, you may end up being disappointed.

Nice ok I will try to decide between those two and add a night or two there.

Nah, sorry. I'm sure 8-9/10 times you'll have a good airbnb experience. I just prefer the convenience and get what you pay for sort of hotel experience. Especially if there's an issue with the room. Nothing worse for me than changing plans last minute and paying a premium if they happen to cancel your stay or you have an issue with a flight.

I've stayed in some of the nicest hotels in the world (Burj Al Arab, RC HK, MBS, etc) so I tend to spoil myself. Unless I'm trying to meet locals in a foreign country then I'll surf couches. Have only stayed in Airbnbs when booked by friends but never really had a bad experience but then again, I wasn't dealing with the owner at all so Idk how that was. I can imagine some are dumb ****g0ts though so pucker your tight bunghole just in case boyo. Safe travels and enjorno

Yep im not against hotels just seemed like a better price for comparable accommodations.

Mind telling me which hotel(s) you booked and price(s) you locked in?
