Got scammed on CashApp... Can I do anything about it?

Asking for a friend..

I was buying some wheels and tires off someone on FB Marketplace, and I sent $550 over PayPay to the seller that had a reputable FB profile. He sent the $$ back to me and said he couldn't transfer it to his bank account and said could I send CashApp instead. As soon as he recieved the money, he deleted his FB profile and the link to the wheels.

I have reported the transaction on Cashapp as Fraud.

I have his Paypal account name.. I am assuming it might be his real name or fake.

My Bank is USAA.

Is there anything I can do or did I dun goof hard?

None of them are liable for stupidity. I mean, it is worth asking I guess, but that money is gone.

Only thing you can really do is make a police report and try to get a criminal conviction or a civil lawsuit, but both of those are a waste of your resources. That money is gone.

This, if that doesn't spell scam, I don't know what does. Might as well be sending crypto to the prince of Nigeria

Some lessons are learned harder (or more expensive in your case) than others.

Did the money that you sent from cash app originate from a debit card, credit card, or your checking account?

Does the charge still say “pending” on your transaction history?

Pretty much your only options is to wait for the charge no longer say “pending” and call the bank.

I think the only chance for them to side in your favor is if the charge is disputed as an “unauthorized charge”. That means that you’re insisting you have no knowledge of the transaction and it’s a fraudulent transaction.

If you say that you sent the money via cash app, but got scammed, you’ll have no shot.

You would have to say you don’t recognize the charge and someone must have stolen your account info.
