At dealership right now. Entire place feels like a scam, and everyone’s shady

Toyota dealership. Just getting an airbag recall fixed. Been listening to conversations, so many suckers in here paying for cabin air filters lol. I’m not even sure they’re fixing my air bag lmao

Any car salesman on here ? Why do you guys act shady

The entire car industry is full of scumbags trying to sell you overpriced trash. From the dealership to the used car lot, to the private FB seller.

These guys at the dealership are masters at manipulating stupid people. every question they ask is a way to obtain information about you, even if it seems innocent.

Used car lot guys are trying to sell you a car that will break down in a year while pretending it's gonna "go the distance."

I sold my car privately a year or so ago. I told the guy I was selling it to that it had a serious engine problem, so I was giving him it on the cheap. Later that week the same car was posted on FB marketplace for twice the price.

My buddy bought a car and it broke down shortly after. He covered up all the problems and pretended it didn't have any and sold it for the price he bought it for. Lost a lot of respect for him that day.

These stories are endless and everyone has them. Car industry is a scaaam

I used to work in a car dealership as a tech. To change out the airbags they 100% have to change it out, the tech has to return the old airbag for the warranty to be accepted, so they can get the new air bag handed & installed. Serial #'s have to be inputted in a system database. No way around that.

Pre-covid source: Car sales man can be outhustled by just shopping around. Make sure you have your own bank if you are to buy a car knowing the interest rate you're getting. If you're paying all cash you can hustle the salesman even more by telling them how much you're willing to pay that's reasonable for both sides.

I get the same vibe with car salesmen, also with realtors. Actually with anyone in sales.

I have friends in the industry, from porter to salesmen, to owner of a dealership. Everyone is trying to get theirs.

It comes down to how bad you want to make the sale. So what are you going to do to get it? If you don't get the sale, your ass isn't making shiit. People do some grimy **** to make that sale, which in my mind is why I hate sales and consider it a sleazy job.

I have a friend who was selling extended car warranties, I still let him have it over that job. What a joke. Should have heard those conversations.

I'm more of an American truck type of guy but my GF is into higher end European cars. Its a completely different experience with higher end cars. I feel like the salesmen don't give a fukk one way or the other if you're going to buy a car or not. They have a this is what it is, take it or leave it attitude because their products sell themselves. My mind was actually blown with how little of an effort those guys put in to trying to make a sale.



Basically if you are going spend 70-100K+ on a car you are treated well/like your not a retard. If you're car shopping with the need/goal to negotiate with salesmen/try to get a good price they think of their customers like plebs.

i sold my car for what i paid for it after 8 months of ownership, i knew the idiot making the offer was overpaying and acted as quick as i could

the dealership that bought it has now discounted it tobelowwhat they paid me.

it is a scam right now, prices through the roof like 5-10k over year 2019-2020 pricing


used versions of my car i bought for the wife going for 3-5k on sale over what I paid out the door.. imagine after taxes and fees prob 7k more than 2019-2020 out the door on a used car.

I had an acura with a takata airbag recall back in 2015. They said would take a couple hours and ended up being there for over 4 hours. Thankfully I brought my laptop. Heard so many scummy conversations between the sales team and sales managers lmfaoooo.

After about 2 hours they came out with a laundry list of chit wrong with my car and I declined it all. Doubt they even replaced the airbag but it didnt matter to me since it was the passenger side and if it killed my gf at the time her family wouldve got paid.

but now new car prices are so high. both my cars are 18-19 my. Gonna drive those bastards for a decade.

When it's time for my next vehicle I will likely do this as well. I hate car dealerships and salesmen, especially when they harass you about adding all those "upgrade" packages at the end.

Was going to post this. Used cars that are a few years old are selling for the same price as new. A lot of new cars and trucks are marked up well over MSRP because there is a lack of new inventory. The chip shortage is not getting any better which is causing chaos in the market. If I HAD to buy new today, I would order what I wanted and wait.

How much of this is due to general inflation, and how much is due to events unique to the car/chip market? I'm leaning towards this just being general inflation now

I feel like the reason why it's so shady is there's no quantifiable way stuff is measured.

So people can just make up whatever they want

How about how I can pay 4k dollars for a transmission, then my car has 39,999 more parts (on avg.) And I can only turn around it sell it for 300?

How does that make sense? How can one part cost 4k but 39,999 more parts along with the 4k dollar part only cost 300 bucks?

Honestly, i like mechanics more but it seems like their part of the equation is even less accounted for. They have an expertise yes. And people are willing to pay for it. But they have labor and all that other chit that Jacks up the price. So a 5 hour service costs hundreds of dollar on a potential 5k dollar machine

That just doesn't make sense imo

Maintenance would eat into cars cost quite a bit. So they can jack up the price

Just saying. I know the problem is multifaceted

I don't know how much inflation overall is affecting availability, I assume it is driving up costs just like everything else, but the chip shortage is definitely keeping availability of some of the most sought after makes and models down.

Sold my 2017 Hyundai Azera to Carvana and got bank on it, way over what local was willing to pay. Fiancé bought her 2020 Blazer on Carvana and it couldn't have been easier.

The problem is that as the seller, you may know that the car is well taken care of and nothing wrong with it. But there's no way for you to prove that to your customer. And there's a lot of other scum sellers out there selling lemons (bad cars). Since your customers can't tell you apart from the lemons, you have to price your product as low as the lemons. And now you aren't interested in selling anymore, leaving only lemons in the market

That's a good point. And kinda goes with my overall point

I was more easily able to explain when I was in the market.. but basically there seemed to be no consistent way the cars were valuated. And like your avg. Joe COULD know with how many parts went into building a car

Parts AND labor prob go into the price of a car. And from there how much it's been used

But your avg. Person can't know the parts and labor cost (maybe if asked? Theoretically? They prob wouldn't anyways?)

There were cars with more mileage selling for the same cars with less, etc., etc. Location prob matters too

So, like I said.. A LOT of discrepancy and A LOT of leeway for a salesman to say "OH YEA! IT COSTS X AMOUNT"

most have been good to me, even the dealership I bought my Focus at late last year was an exceptional place and I actually DID get a good deal on it. Was very fair.
Now there's a place in Orlando called Mint and they are truly scums of the town.Beat the **** out of my tradein, offered me nothing for it, wanted to change an interest rate on the car I was interested in. I ended up getting the same car for Idk I think like 75% less, just had to travel to Ft. Lauderdale. Big deal, fuk you
