Wouldn't a regular site plan be enough to show the location of the patio. I can maybe see requiring a survey if the patio is close to the property line, otherwise not sure why they want that. HOA gonna HOA

Go to county with a copy of your Plat survey. Draw yourself where the patio will go. Have county approve plans. Use the stamped plans from county to tell HOA to kick rocks. Srs

There is nothing more cuck that willingly joining an HOA under the age of 65. That being said, play by the rules or karen and crew will be measuring your bushes height and driveway length while you sleep. Never underestimate the capability of a divorced short haired post menopause female.

I built a deck about 2 years ago without HOA approval, but my back yard is also very hidden. I've had neighbors who have visible back yards have HOA issues cuz it's just right out on the open for everyone to see.

you're over thinking this
they're not requiring a new survey, and you already have a survey from the purchase of the home.

16x16 brick paver patio without their approval, it's in my backyard no one's seeing it. I'd only submit an ARB if it was in publics view. 5 yr and counting without issues from them

OP, I live in a gated neighborhood with a pretty strict HOA that has to approve everything.
You know how many times I’ve requested a review of the work I was planning on the outside of my house?
0, what are they going to do? Take my house?
Usually I get a letter or two notifying me of non compliance with HOA bylaws, but they don’t do anything last that

I'd never join an HOA, but it's unwise to cross them since they can start coming up with excuses to cost you money and make your life miserable. At the end of the day it's up to them how closely they make you follow their rules and they can just make more rules to spite you if they wanted.

My HOA has never even threatened a lien. If I where making changes that make my house look worse they might do that though.
When I first moved in I asked my neighbor about getting approval for adding a hot tub, he said “**** them, do what you want. I’ve never asked for approval for any of the work I did and I even built an addition onto my house”
Figured that was good enough for me.

The only way to deal with HOA ass holes is through legal representation.
If you can bankrupt the HOA through legal fees you end the HOA. It happened in my neighborhood. Stupid HOA sued a homeowner for having an un marked work van out front. Turns out this is fukking america and you can drive what you want.
They were arrogant about it and ended up charging over a $100k in legal fees and got dissolved. Now the guy parks his marked FLEET where ever the fuk he wants.

I just had to do this with installing 500 ft of fence.
I used the survey from the purchase of my home and cleanly drew on there using SnagIt where the fence is going and told them this was the fence company's doing.
They ate it up.
Only caveat to going rogue is if you are doing something that requires a permit and getting caught. I've heard horror stories where people finished an entire basement without permits and the city found out and made them tear it out and redo it with the proper permits.

don't make things harder on yourself OP
you signed into the HOA when you bought the home, they can put a lien on your home and chit like that that $500 can turn into late fees, etc then all of a sudden your home is being auctioned off.

if you do it yourself though the chance of anyone from the city/town noticing is slim to none.
unless you have a prick neighbor who blows you in.
however i will never live with an HOA is and my city wont make people tear chit out when caught unless it was built unsafely.

I hate having my backyard visible
not sure who it is but theres a nazi hoa guy/girl who will find a small piece of torn paper/trash they gets blown into the backyard.. next thing you know I get a letter in the mail with a print out of the picture talking about the rules of a clean backyard etc etc. and I have like 3 days to fix or be fined.

As I said, I already submitted the application. It is very detailed sketching of the work, all the descriptions and a county rooftop snapshot of the lot with marking of the patio area. The admin said HOA is very picky on design applications and they require a certified plat and I told her they are ruining the community and bunch of other things. I have a feeling they are going to send scouts to see if I am going rogue. Where in bylaws I can find fines and consequences for going rogue? Which terms should I ctrl+F in bylaws to find about these type of fines/liens?

As a man who owns a home in an HOA neighborhood, you are LITERALLY dedicating at least 30 years of your life simply to maintain a house for an HOA to enjoy. It is the ULTIMATE AND FINAL cuck. Think about it logically
