Gardening is one of those things that are a lot more difficult than I thought

I've gone full potato and killed my share of plants

One thing I've learned is that what tends to kill plants is giving them TOO much attention (overwatering, over mulching, over fertilizing, etc)

If you live in a good climate, fruit trees pretty much take care of themselves as long as you don't **** up the soil

Yeah I've lost lots of stuff to birds, mostly the figs and grapes. I now cover all of the soft ripening fruit with bird netting which does the job. I read that raccoons have been found to pick and entire pineapple off the plant and run away with it so I covered them with the netting as well which kept the animals away.

Correct, all avocado trees are either type A and type B and you need the alternate tree to pollinate. Luckily me neighborhood has lots of avocado trees with the closest one being about 60 feet away. I see them all loaded with avocados so I'm not worried about mine.

I have a total of 10 pineapples growing right now:





My mango tree just bloomed and now has lots of small fruit. Fruit ripens in June/July:





My bananas fruited two months ago and just flowered again which means another bunch in about 3 months. Here was the harvest two months ago (these are namwah variety, small, dense, creamy, and exotic super sweet melony flavor):

You can definitely grow some good stuff in LA, just need to check the climate requirements of specific plants as it's not a tropical climate. Lots of people don't know that the Cali Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the entire world. You can grow some good chit there.

Guava is so pungent. You walk into a fruit shop and smell it immediately. I once brewed an IPA with fresh guava and mango. It was ridiculous.

Yeah it's crazy, I've fallen into the guava smell trap numerous times. I go into a fruit shop and buy a guava because how amazing it smells and then go home and eat and hate it. Maybe I've never got a good one but I've never had a guava I enjoyed.

Mad jelly. When I lived in an apartment in California I had a patio full of peppers and tomatoes. Out here in Omaha everything dies in winter, feckin sucks. If I had one reason to move back to Cali it would be to have a backyard with citrus and avocado trees. Looks like your in Florida, another GOAT state for growing year round, and GOAT for other reasons.

LMAO, it's the smell that kinda throws me off. It smells like BO to me, but tastes delicious. There are different varieties and I think ripeness plays a part in the smell.

jelly as ****, im growing more tomatoes in my sun room this year - i was also growing microgreens but they're kind of a pain in how fast they grow - have some berry bushes in my backyard but only one has really grown well

What would you say is the best low key place to live in Florida.... don't really care about dat dere Miami high roller life...... just a quiet community that has basic things and doesn't get gaped by Hurricanes

That's a tough question. First, there's literally no where in the state where you're free of hurricanes. Somewhere inland like Orlando can and does still get hit but the effects will be a little lesser than where it made landfall on the coast. Literally everywhere on all coasts of the state can experience a landfall of any intensity.

As for quiet communities, they are everywhere outside of the big cities. All along the east and west coasts are littered with these nice communities. Check out the treasure coast on the east coast (places like Stuart, Fort Pierce, Port St Lucie) or anywhere south of Tampa on the west coast (Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Naples). There are also nice places outside Orlando but most of the inland places are super redneck trailer trash.

New update. The mangoes, pineapples, and bananas are really rocking right now. Pineapples should be ready for picking in about 3-4 weeks, mangoes should be ready in mid-June, bananas should be ready in early July.
