-I want the flexibility to move for my career (again they never do, but in any case you can sell or rent a property you bought and make a tidy profit)
Never encountered such a bitter group of people with such transparent cope.
Spoiler!

maybe I have the causation backwards and bitter people tend to become rentcels
Bold one is always my favourite. They always brag about how much they can invest if they aren't tied down to mortgage payments; yet I doubt any of them actually make what they say, and invest what they say.
Quantitatively, you can make more with the investment tactic, should it work in your favour. However, they never consider other factors that will impact this:
1. They always state very aggressive portfolios, which would need to be maintained throughout their life (most people shift to safer portfolios as they get older)
2. All it takes is one massive crash to put you in a panic.
3. Owning a home is the easiest peace of mind you can have once it's paid off

This totally depends on the market that you live in( heat in the current market.. cash offer/overbidding)
The job market in the city( people leaving vs arriving) and
The average prices of units.
I am helping the gf now and the 1 bedrooms are $2,200 vs $2,700-$3,200 for 2 bedrooms in nice hotel like newer buildings( DC and suburbs)
A friend in Prague told me 2 bedrooms go for $650, lol

There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

Because they get asked how many millionaires are rentcels and they sit back, sigh and start to cope
They have this idea if the mythical rentcel millionaire who lives his entire life in a one bedroom apartment investing all his money and convince themselves that’s why they don’t own

In another thread I pointed out how they could have bought a condo/apartment and not only own it but be paying a lot less than rent of the same sized apartment. At least they wouldn't have section 8 trash living across the hall.
Face it, if they were that financially smart they would be owning a home.

Not to mention rent increases over 30 years vs a fixed mortgage

Estimated mortgage $383/mo. Probably taxes, fee's all in you are talking about under $600/mo. Got 2br can get a roomate and pay for that.
One miscer talked about renting a 3br and then renting the other two rooms out and having the rent paid. LMAO yeah I wish he would try that and see how it works out. So many theories and hypothetical ideas that don't play out into real life.
