I have a new job opportunity coming up and I would like to get certified in microsoft excel . It doesn't have to be the full blown microsoft course where I have to test at a remote test site but something showing I made a effort. Any legit online certification sites ? I'm a welder and might be stepping into the office.

Udemy would be my best guess.

Boyo, you can get certified if you like, but in all honesty, these are the excel functions you need to master:

* Pivot tables
* Vlookup
* Sumif
* Sumifs


That's about it. you can learn all these on youtube.

I feel you, but I would like to do a little more then say I watched YouTube. I'm going to interview and they are going to ask how well I know excel. I'd like to give them a decent answer.

This reminds me of a situation I saw at work recently.

A new employee was hired, an older lady, and she didn't know how to use excel - not even basic sh/t like copy/paste. She was constantly belittled and pressured by her manager. Since she was a temp, the hiring manager asked her not to come back.

I can understand the manager informing the agency not to have her come back because she couldn't offer any useful skills, but the way the manager treated her was very mean-spirited. The lady was an older lady in her 50s, there was no need to give her a hard time just for not knowing excel. She was told " no need to come back next week".... that must be terrible for an older worker to hear.

boyo, excel is an absolute requirement in the modern corporate work. You can't even get a basic data-entry job without knowing how to use it.

Doesn't it take like 30 min to learn excel?

I'm 39. I can navigate computers like any normal person and can usually figure things out just messing around for a bit. I do a lot of work on the computer daily , all mine and my crews time on jobs, all record keeping of work performed, reading maps, sending emails and all my training is on the computer. I'm not new to computers, just new to excel. I'd like to show I made a effort.
