Netflix just can't help themselves!
Have followedThe Last Kingdomsince it was on the BBC. Low budget but have really enjoyed it up until the first episode of Season 5...

Really Netlfix? A black Catholic priest in 9th/10th century England? Honestly just lazy, could have cast a North African or even an Arab and it would have been historically accurate.
I haven't watchedVikingsbefore, will I have to experience the same on that show?

Netflix is required to always include a black person in everything. Itโs never about finding the right person for the role.

BBC were sorry that they couldn't put any women in a drama about the SAS.

They don't have a choice, OP. Netflix, Amazon Studios, HBOMax, etc all have mandatory diversity requirements. Producers basically have two choices in order to meet these requirements - cast minorities or insert homosexual/trans storylines.
In the case of Vikings Valhalla, they took a real-life white male chieftain and made him a strong, black woman. The presumption can be made that this was done because they felt like shoe-horning a gay storyline would detract from the show's few plot-lines. Likewise for Last Kingdom. Either you get the unrealistic minority priest, or Utred would have to experiment with taping his dink back and spend a few eps with different pronouns.
The mandatory diversity requirement is pretty ridiculous when it comes to history-based shows, but it is what it is.

libtards work on feels not logic
Libtards are too dumb to realize it undermines their argument that "people of color" are so oppressed when they keep showing them in all of these positions of wealth and power hundreds of years ago.

LOLed a bit when I saw that. I'm pretty sure they mentioned he was from Rome originally and came to England because he had a gambling problem. So at least there is the realm of possibility about it. But let's be honest, the show was too white and they needed to change that before the series ended.

I for one am tired of the blackwashing of history. Blackwashing is rooted in racism.

What if this dude is just a really good actor and actually went to school for acting and while he was in school learning the art he played a lot of different roles that werent all black people.
Sometimes, it may be a shocker, black people dont want to only play black people in movies. Sometimes they also want to play historical figures as an artist and it has nothing about "black washing" movies.
There are times when it is obvious and intentional but just because it wasn't historical isnt good enough for me.

do people really expect the alternative that black people are never allowed to play white historical figures and all movies must be historically racially correct?
