Das it mane.

Give due credence to the "OC" part of the "NOC" haha. Being on call sucks. Do you get paid overtime? Also what's your starting salary? 401k match?

My first job after graduating in Comp Sci was $60k/yr, no 401k match, and had to work overtime without extra pay. In hindsight it was terrible, but at the time I was excited because it was better than my prior $10/hr job. Fast forward 4.5 years and I'm now basepay $85kish, work remote, get paid overtime, get bonuses, 401k match with vestment already in the works, probably grossing $120k this year.

Mirin ded fkn srs …

Its technically 31/hr. 40 hr weeks and OT if ppl are sick/vacay. 1 week PTO. No on call but work around the clock as youd expect. 2$ hr raise come 6 month mark.

Its fine for the year. At the year mark if ive hit my cert goals im gonna jump but more than anything im just happy to not be looking for the first job any more this market is crazy for entry level jobs. Every entry level job requires 3 yrs. This job just made the path so much easier as long as i do well.

Python crew, data analyst crew, tech crew master race crew. Hit me up if you need anything brah.

You have it on your resume now which means your certs, which mean NOTHING in a vacuum of unrelated job experience, are now valuable. Skillmaxx, learn as much as you can on the job & in your free time, and figure out how to get promoted/land the next gig once you have at least a year in role. GFJDM.

Hopping companies is the most efficient way to get dramatic pay bumps for sure. One guy I knew was making like $80k-85k gross, and then after 2 years work experience, some relevant high level certs, he jumped to a new company in a Sr. position making $150k+ gross, srs. I'll forever be jealous because he did that so soon, though he did have a relevant Master's and like $60k+ debt, which probably helped him land the higher paying gig tbh.

Best thing to do IMO is get a raise, and then shortly after the raise, start interviewing at other companies, and you can use that new base pay or gross pay as leverage / bargaining power to negotiate your salary.

Fuark yea. Thats the plan boyo. Giving this role and industry my undevoted attention for this upcoming year and aiming high for the 2nd role. Python really comes in handy because of its versatility and i feel i can pivot in many directions knowing it.

This degree and job search is the main reason i havent read books this year

That 60k debt probably lit a match lol

Def gonna use that advice. I hear crazy stories like that alot about what can be done in a year and i want in

Grats man. I got a bunch of old Cisco 1921 routers and layer 3 switches laying around that I was using to study for my CCNP but then went down the road of cloud engineer instead of networking instead.

It was fun though having a home lab
