Can you be lean post 35 with abs ?

This chit used to be effortless for me but now that I’ve become a crusty old fart, I feel like having a layer of fat over the gains is inevitable.

Any examples of post 35 natty lean for motivational purposes ?

It’s all about calories in vs out and your metabolism. Anyone can get ripped if they’re willing to suffer through starvation and strenuous exercise. Everyone has abs under the layer of fat.

Yeah, but I feel like the suffering becomes worse the older you get. Can eat whatever u want when younger and don’t get fat.

Sucks man, food so good. I always binge at night after being diligent all day.

And lifting makes u so hungry lol

Why wouldn't you?

Just eat less food and exercise more

It's only "inevitable" to you because you lack the will

What's more important than your appearance is your cardiovascular health

Do you really need an example? People have all sorts of body fat at all ages since forever

If you want to do something, especially something as simple as losing weight, you will have to motivate yourself

It's not complex, it's not some huge achievement, it's not even difficult with a bit of self-control, why even ask the question?

I know I sound like a dick but honestly what is this mindset? Why would it not be possible?

You don't even have to exercise, you can just eat less food.

Cmon bro, does it really suck that you like food and can afford to eat a lot of it?

Just because you can eat a lot doesn't mean you have to, simple stuff bro

The simple stuff is hard because there's no secret trick to it

The more you discipline yourself, the better life gets
Beans. Cleans. Gasoline.

I mean yea, it does. Life is extremely short and cutting weight sucks ass, lets not pretend it doesnt.

For me staying under 15% BF is just a major pain in the ass IMO. I dont wanna sit and think about food all day.

You take the good with the bad. If you are willing to suffer but have the pride that you're in a very selective group of older individuals and can confidently look the best out of everyone on a beach, then abs. Otherwise, enjoy food.

what's a practical BF% to attain that gives a good balance of health/aesthetics and ability to enjoy life without making your dieting a 2nd job tracking/preping?

I like the 15% range for me. 20% and I start to feel too flabby. Under 15% requires meal tracking and being hungry.

Yes it is certainly possible.

Actual metabolic slowdown only occurs later in life (60+) and even then is relatively small effect.

Much more significant is that people lose motivation, get focused on work/family/kids etc. Priorities change. But if you continue being active and eating sensibly you can be lean and fit throughout your thirties, forties, and beyond.

Edit: Agree with above comment, around 15% bf (accurate not imagined) is a reasonably balanced target for late 30's+.

Yes, I'm 41 and making great progress. I cut really hard down to 155, and am almost a full 4 pack. Pant size dropped 3 inches. Now lean gaining and put on 15lbs up to 170 with no gains on the waist line.

I know everyone says that's impossible. They say that because they've never done it.

I’m relatively lean at 37 without even putting in any real effort but have never been overweight

Probably could still be a bit leaner by default if I hadn’t dirty bulked on GOMAD etc during my 20s

I don't see why you have to come in a thread and take a dig at someone like that. We should all be encouraging each other to stay healthy and fit.

I'm 40 with visible abs and maintaining has taken little effort. I'm not shredded but never have been. Pretty happy at around 15% bodyfat. I suspect making a dramatic change in your late 30s and 40s is probably a lot harder than in your 20s. I make small adjustments and it's not hard.
