My AVI is about as lean as I got at around 39 years of age.
No matter how lean I get I can't get rid of all the lower belly fat but I don't know if that's down to age or genetics.
Conversely, no matter how fat I get my arms and chest remain vascular.

Op have you thought about trying new diets? Maybe fast for 48 hours, that's an extra 4000 calories you can eat over 5 days

Yes but the problem is lean mass, you just can't gain or even maintain like you used to (although, IMO, 35 is fine -- it's 40+ where it sinks in more and more). You might get leaner but you may not like what you see when you get there.
Diet as you get older is crucial as is minimizing stress and getting good sleep. Lay off alcohol. Count carbs. Pay more attention to all that stuff.

You must be joking. There is very little age related decline that would affect this until you get into your 60s. The biggest change before then is skin collagen, which can mute the visual effect of being lean since the skin does not lie as tight or look quite as good but your abs will show all the same. Otherwise your problems are lifestyle related, stop making excuses.

Thx for old brahs chiming in here with encouragement.
I’m still relatively lean, just trying to get the nice beach physique that I had 3 years ago.
Tbh I haven’t been trying that hard - had like 8 drinks yesterday / most weekends.
I still lift heavy / hard tho.
Currently fasting.
Can’t fast during week as work requires too much brain power and I feel slower when fasted.

Sucks because it’s so good.

<<<39 years old. Just about visible abs. I am not really looking to cut though as I like being a bit large.
If I wanted to, I could get visible abs by calorie reduction and increased cardio plus ab isolation exercises.

It’s easy, I’m 44 with abs. I eat whatever I want, I just intermediate fast once a week & try to avoid eating after sundown, only drink on the weekends.

It only gets worse with age because you let it get worse as you aged. And then you let it get even worse and think ....yah, it's because of my age. NO. It's because you let it happen.
Unless you legit went low T with age, your body will respond with training as is. I'm 52, no TRT, gonna go work on planche.

Yes I’m 37 and 4pack (used to have 6ish pack in my 20s)
Never stopped training hard, Most of the year low carb ketoish, fasting 5 days consecutive twice a year etc. Use a CGM to track my blood glucose and have excellent metrics and low A1c as in my 20s
It did become a bit more difficult after 35ish but doable. It think most of the visceral fat accumulation is might be due to cortisol (stress) rather than macros or calories. As years pass you accumulate stressful life situations and the fat accumulates

My metabolism hasn't really changed since hitting my mid 30s, but it does seem like many of the motivators have begun to disappear. Life is comfortable, I don't have many worries. I'm a person who really has to put in effort if I want to have low BF, and just not always willing to put in the effort anymore.
