Is powerbait any good for fishing?

Basic stuff like trout. The clay floating type keeps falling off of the hook. Thinking of trying the sinking version, or just switching to nightcrawlers. What worked for you?

Powerbait works good. Night crawlers have always given me the best results though. What type of trout are you going for?

Ever use lures?

No lures yet, just weights, swivel and powerbait.

If powerbait keeps falling off the hook try the nuggets. They last so much longer. And the trick with nightcrawlers is to keep them off the bottom if you're using a carolina rig. Take a needle and inject air into the worm, it'll inflate and float. Just make sure to thread worm onto hook first then injection.

Use live worms it will work better power bait will not catch you anything.

Wtf I’ve never heard of that, wouldn’t they explode?

and even if they touch the bottom it doesn’t matter

I've always used the powerbait or berkley gulp plastic worms or minnows, or live grass shrimp. Though I'm not much of a freshwater fisher, unless it is night fishing for catish with a case of beer, a lawn chair, and chicken liver

Older fisherman brah told me to mash up waxworms and mix it up with powerbait for maximal results. I kept some reptiles in the past, and they went nuts over waxworms.

It's a popular method out here on the west coast. Inject and inflate until it balloons up a bit, that's it.

Yes, trout will take bait from bottom but a worm suspending 2ft off bottom is more visible than one down in the rocks or vegetation. Same reason why powerbait floats.

You gotta use the Powerbait balls and float them a few feet off the bottom. Here is how you do it:

Get a small hook, place 2 balls on it, and place a heavy sinker about 3-4 feet from the hook. Dip the hook with the powerbait in the water first to make sure it floats. If it doesn't float the fish won't see it as it will be in the weeds at the bottom of the lake / river. Only method that works consistently for me, but I have never tried worms.

Yeah it works for trout. I use it ice fishing on tip ups. I prefer lures in open water though. I find that trout cruise in the top 15ft of the water column most of the time, and generally in the top few feet when they are feeding. I'll troll 4-6inch shallow crankbaits over 120ft of water and catch rainbow, brown, and cutthroats.... Unless the water temps are warm like above 65 degrees. Then they go deeper below the thermocline.

I've had okay results with Powerbait.

I have better results with EZ Bites. They come in a strip with a mesh netting inside it so one piece can catch 5 fish. I used it on the pier in salt water and one peice lasted a long time. I have not yet tried it for trout or in freshwater.
