Depends on the lift and how I feel.

Usually it's 60 seconds but if I'm hitting near max on a compound, 2-3 mins.

Honestly I don't think it really matter that much, just do what your comfortable with.

Anything over 60 seconds and your catabolic window closes. At that point you might as well pack it up and go home. Can't make gains without an open window

Your regular bread and butter workouts should be 1min

Sure when your pushing your numbers on bench or this or that trying to go very heavy take a bit more rest and challenge yourself.

But if you are talking the entire time you spend in the gym 80% of it should be 60sec or less rests.

I always lol at all these people spending more time and doing less reps / sets then me and treating gym like it’s social hour.

60 seconds. I count it in the language I’m learning 🤦‍♂️

Occasionally 90 seconds when I up weight on hang clean and press.

Yeah it seems the window is real but 60 seconds is not the figure

Still though, it's good to keep a good pace and push yourself

There was just a study that shows longer rest periods are far superior for hypertrophy than shorter.

I don’t time them. I lift when I’m ready. Several minutes for compounds. Less for isolation.

Its 3 minutes for me. That usually enough time for me to catch my breath but not completly recover to the point I can crank out the same amount of reps as the previous set. Also I don't have the time for 5 minute resting periods like I use to. Its only a couple of minutes extra but that chit adds up when you have to be to work in an hour:

There are some studies out there (I studied them in college, but I don't remember who published them) saying that a bigger amount of time would result in better hypertrophy.

They used 2-3 mins agaist 45-60 secs, I believe.

I like to workout with "heavy" weight. I would not complete 50% of the reps I had to do if I used a 45-60secs pause.

It would drop like crazy: 1st set I would do 8-12...2nd would do 6 at most....3rd would do 4 at most. (ive tried)

German Volume Training says to wait 1 to 3 minutes so that's what I usually do.

However, I listen to my body before anything else.

I think the 1 to 3 is good for keeping excitement going.

TBH I try to get started on my next set before the person next to me does. Usually I'm on the phone during a break reading chit or looking chit up, and sometimes I'll let that extend my rest period, other times I might go to the water fountain and make however long that takes my rest period. I try to be fast, and it's hard to say but I'd guess 120-180 seconds is my average. When I lift I do 15 reps x 4 sets for each workout I do, usually 3-4 work outs, and then I finish off with cardio. I try to be out of the gym within 45 minutes tbh.

Generally I don't time them anymore. I monitor my heart rate and start my next set when it drops back below 100 bpm on heavy compounds which I do first in my workouts. Then below 110 for accessories. I also just go by feel and check the heart rate if I'm not sure.

I listen to my body and take as long as it requires, which is usually minimum, like changing plates.

But as for upper-body, I usually do push-pull antagonistic supersets, so it's basically different from otherwise.

It's about 4 minutes at the start of the session and around 90s by the end.

I start with a big exercise with low reps and long rests and then, as the session goes on, the exercises get smaller, the reps get higher and the rest periods get shorter.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

They had the technology to rebuild me. They made me better, stronger, faster......
