You use ipleak to make sure you're really anonymous?

I have nordVPN configured on an old laptop to not even allow internet access unless it's through nord servers.

you have to engage the internet killswitch on ur VPN so when you disconnect it doesn’t revert back to your ISP.

I kind of wondered this myself. With modern compression technology and bandwidth, downloading a feature length film never takes more than 5-10 minutes.

I used to get notifications from my ISP that said that they "detected" an "increased download volume" consistent with "illegal media sites" but they never did chit about it.

it's definitely illegal. idk how much they pursue it, though

i would think they mainly go after the people that seed it/ distribute it, but i have heard of people downloading chit and getting caught. like i think hbo or some movie or media company was known for planting seeds with game of thrones and then going after people

and the fines are tremendous

now, not movies, but pics i know are a huge copyright issue on the web. there are people who literally have businesses taking pics, putting them up on keywords hoping they get picked up on google, and then going after anybody using them. there are businesses that bait people and then make money from lawsuits

and i think usually they put out a cease and desist and a threat of like 8k dollars.. but if they actually go after you it's way, way more

have also heard of a company taking an obscure photo (like a really blurry photo where the content wasn't even the objective. just capturing the "feeling") and then being sued by the person that took the pic and having to close up shop
