Killed, plucked and butchered 95 chickens

I am pretty opportunistic in general...

-Op has a friend who farms chickens. 25000 at a time
-if they can't catch a few or one is a bit too small they can't go to market
-farmer normally just kills and buries them
-op went and picked up 125 of them for free
-Op gave 30 to a buddy, then killed, plucked, butchered and froze 95 of them

Hope the pic embeds, if not, help a ****ggot out.

I'm half dutch, so when I hear the word "free" my ears perk up.

Wife got an insta pot. Should be delicious.

Best part is, he raises another 25000 every 40 days. Could get another 100 or so...in a month or so.

Brock Lesnar on his very first documentary visited the struggling dairy farm he grew up working on and he just grabbed 2 of the live chickens and broke their necks with his big burly manly bare hands. The camera crew was disgusted. Like damn you camera folks don’t know a lot of farm boys do ya? Lol!

How long did it take you and how many of you doing it?

Had a neighbor that was off the grid. She legit lived in a shed. No electric or water or septic. And had damn near every farm animal under the sun. Walked up my driveway a hot summer morning and told me they killed a bunch of chickens the night before and had a hell of a time cleaning them up and handed me a grocery bag of a few breasts.......that she had on ice. I didn't have the heart to tell her I could smell them 10 feet away and when she left I threw them in the weeds.

Fuark. I'd be in on that too. Those look nice.

The plucking takes the longest but once you've got 5 gallons of hot water you're good for a long time. Big outdoor propane burner for heating the water is GOAT.

Garden shears are great for clipping the feet.

Oof. I hate killing anything in the heat. Was just above freezing here, so they cooled fast.

I have a power plucker wheel, so plucking was like 4 hrs, butchering and packaging was like 5.

Better part of a day. But since I was all set up, it was efficient to just steam through them.

I have a rubber wheel to pluck. Works fine enough. Like a minute and a half a bird ish, maybe a bit more

I used a small hatchet for feet and head.

Never tried hot water, because the wheel just works fine for a few ducks at a time. I shouldntry the scald method.

That must be nice. The last time I did them we were plucking by hand. I think we done 75 in a day. By the sounds of things you're making better time.

Imagine the smellz. Cold temps would help a bunch with that, but I'm sure you had a certain aroma when you were done with 95.

Can't beat free though.
