How is Subway still in business?

Was at work today, and when I left the crib in the morning I didn't have time to prep my lunch meal, and thought whatever I'll get Subway or something for lunch since it's right next to the office.

Well, I went there first time I'd been to subway in years, and ordered the Italian BMT with provolone cheese lettuce tomato etc.

When I got back to the office to eat it. It was all soggy the lettuce didn't even seem fresh. I had about 3 bites of it, and threw it in the trash.

Had to settle for chips from the vending machine lol.

It's crazy because I worked for Subway, but this was back in 2006, and it was delicious back then.

I came...

...this close ---->| |<---- to opening a Subway franchise, years ago.

At the time there were about 8k franchises in the US, IIRC, and about 2k that had opened but gone out of business.

As opposed to McDonald's, who have never, at least to my knowledge, had a franchise close down due to poor sales or mgmt issues (shootings, yes).

My point is...McD's > Subway

Subway is a franchise and is actually one of the most profitable and easiest to start up.

Been thinking about starting my own subway srsly.

Mutherfukker, nobody OWNS a McDungal's.

When you buy a McDonald's franchise you are only buying a 20 year lease on that location and the license to do business as Ronald McDonald for that amount of time.

At the end of the term you hand that sh*t back to McDonald's and they re-sell it to the next slave.

a few months back i tried one close to my work. on 2 occasions my online order was over 30 minutes late and on the 2nd time, half the stuff wasnt even available. i emailed customer service and instead of sending me a gift card, they gave my name to the store manager so i could come in for a free salad. really smart to give the store a customer complained against the customers personal info. that was the final straw and ill never go there anymore.

Look... me and the McDonald's people got this little misunderstanding. See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.

No, it's not. It's not even close to having anything remotely resembling an industry high profit margin, in any way, shape or form under any circumstances.

The only way you're going to bank off a Subway franchise business is to have multiple locations, unless you have one super choice location.

how?? franchising a fast food joint isn't that profitable as it is and probably even worse since it would be a Subway franchise.

probably easy to start up, dubious on the profitability claim

I dunno about that specific sub but veggie quality can be highly variable and might be particularly bad when business is slow, a batch did not transport well, etc. But that doesn’t mean it’s always bad

Went like a decade without eating at Subway and then spent a bunch of time in small Prairie towns where Subway off the highway is sometimes the only nearby fast food restaurant, so I ended up eating it a lot in 2021

The rolls are full of sugar now and disgusting.

To get a decent amount of meat you gotta double it so you're looking at around $16 in my area for a sub FFS.

They no longer have the hot pepper relish which made a meatball sub edible and no longer have italian dressing which every Italian sub needs.

That said, I still shell out the $16 every couple of months for one.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

subway is pretty bad but recently i tried some place called potbellies and it was also complete chit. you ask for pickles and instead you get phucking vinegar cucumbers

basically any gas station is going to have a superior sub, tier 1 is publix

I think you and I are close in age. I remember in the early 90s Subway being something you wanted to eat. They marketed their bread in the 00s and now that I look back on it that's probably when they went downhill.

depends on the franchise for sure. Went to one today where it was a kid in hs running the place, but he made beautiful sandwich and the place was clean / all fresh veggies too

you cant judge all subways by their Color boyos

Brock Lesnar ate at Subway 4-5x a week. He loves subway. That was before Jared. If he met Jared he’s probably punch his effing teeth down his throat.

But yea Brock Lesnar used to eat at subway almost daily. Srs

I use to eat at subway all the time back in college. It was cheap and 2 or 3 of the sandwiches seemed decent quality. I went to subway last year though for first time in a long time, and now even the few sandwiches i didn't think were bland now taste bland.

So now I just do Firehouse or Jimmy Johns if one of the local sandwich shops isn't available.

You might be onto something

I remember around 2006-2008 Subway was so much better. Fresh and genuinely good food.

Now it's mostly garbage. Maybe it all changed in 2012
