Tell me about Minneapolis Misc

Looks like I'm going to be spending some time in Minneapolis Misc. I'm working downtown and staying close to work.

It's a beautiful city, and amazingly empty of people much of the time. Not at all like Chicago.

I've been wandering around at night and noticed a bunch of dudes scoping me out. Like with bad intentions. Fortunately I am one of the few miscers who look like they lift in a dress shirt so no one has actually engaged me. I asked my coworkers if I was being paranoid and they said they don't even come downtown after dark anymore since covid.

Yesterday I went to target to get shaving cream and chit and as soon as I walked in they said they close in 5 min. It was 5:55. On the way out i asked wtf to some chick, and she said it's been like this because of the riots??? After I walked outside I really looked around and there were meth heads and hood rats everywhere at 6 with a strong police presence.

Tell me some stories about what is going on here for reps, and tell me what's fun to do at night. I'm sure you know where I am if you know Minneapolis.

For your time, a pic from my new office.

Wait how do i post a pic on mobile? Can't misc on my work computer anymore.

Perfect timing OP.
The run up to the mid-term election riots are about to get underway. Sounds like you will have a front row seat to view the action.

Minneapolis is getting pricier. But the social scene is better imo. Employment opportunities are better In Minneapolis too. Don’t think twice - move to the twin cities.

Was just there Saturday. Hit up Sneaky Pete's for a wild night out or Crave for some excellent sushi.

Overall the atmosphere has decreased in terms of safety, vibes, etc, unfortunately.

Its severely gone downhill since maybe 2016. Used to be an awesome place to walk around late at night with lots of fun people moving from bar to bar, but after the bullchit urban yoof riots, I don't think I'd step foot downtown at night.

Check out Brit's pub and walk Nicolette mall but get back to your hotel before 10...

Stay safe.

I don't have to move here. I'm cfo of company that will have a new hq in Chicago and a satellite team here in Minneapolis. I will probably be here 1 week per month.

Fuk, I didn't put that together. They were telling me it was because of covid with the city being empty so long. Now everything makes sense.

Absolutely a ****hole now.

15 years ago was a goat city.

Stay away from joggers, will mug people and stomp for your phone in broad daylight.

I used to love the Muslim community there srsly, mostly Egyptians and Saudi long time residents and usa allies. Then the ****li moved in and turned it into 3rd world ****hole.

Can confirm. Up until 4-5 years ago it was like most college cities with plenty of night life, very little homeless/poor/etc, and a great variety of places to go and people to see.

The luster really has dropped off, particularly since 2020. That was the real tipping point and even now without COVID on peoples' minds, it's still not a place I have a general feeling of comfort in. Even during the day there are areas where you just don't feel good about going because the people aren't productive members of society and are loitering everywhere.

That Target OP talked about is in one of those areas. I once picked up a PS5 from that Target and had to walk a couple of blocks to get back to my car. I told the cashier to double bag it. She asked if that's because it was heavy and I didn't want the bag to rip. I said no, it's because it's shady as hell in here and outside.....

Unfortunately all the negative opinions here are accurate. I've lived in MN my whole life and aside from a Vikings game or two per year--would never set foot in Mpls post-Floyd/the riots. One of the biggest problems now is the car-jackings. I would never actually drive my vehicle down there, but the public transportation like the light rail system is just as unsafe.

I used to work in downtown St. Paul which they have totally redone and was really nice, but I haven't been down there post-covid so that may be a war-zone now as well.....

I thought Minneapolis was a nice city but the way you guys are describing it, it sounds exactly like the city where I work. Downtown businesses even restaurants shut down at 5, high crime and general sketchiness

Like others have mentioned, it was until just a few years ago (pre-Covid, all the police issues, other crime, etc.). Also, most of the prominent businesses/corporations that were in Mpls have now either gone permanently remote (and let their downtown office leases expire) or have opted to move their headquarters out to one of the local suburbs away from Mpls.

Never been but worth noting Minneapolis is one of the few northern U.S. metro areas still pulling double digit % growth. Almost all of the rapid population growth is in the Sunbelt while the north, especially the Midwest, is mostly emptying out. The twin cities are attracting new residents for a variety of reasons.

Yes, the ceo and i thought everyone was lazy as fuk for not wanting to come into the office. There is 1 guy who likes to to get away from his kids disrupting his work.

GOAT tier city until St. Floyd debacle. Always leaned left but the social contract was intact. I lived there for a year and moved right before the pandemic. Lived downtown and walked all around at night with zero issues. Things have drastically changed. They went full retard in virtue signaling, and now I hear it quite unsafe downtown. Still quite good in northeast and other places.

Tinder in Chicago is very tame compared to here. The Herp fear is real. Feels like San Fran.

Tinder and Bumble were supposed to be the entertainment here. I'm staying in nice places and my dinners are free.

It used to be a blast. Summer of 2016 we would walk all over the place bar hopping every weekend. It was still a bit sketchy, but Since Floyd it’s a complete **** hole. Would not do these days.

Great place to get car jacked though.
