Congrats and thanks for sharing always good to see.

I do think it’s harder to find women like your wife these days. Not impossible but harder.

Congratulations, you made the right choice. You’re lucky to have gotten married so young, I’m a lot older than you and still single, I’d rather be married. She’s a beautiful woman.

Induced Drag is a term in aerodynamics. It is the portion of drag that comes as a result of producing "lift". Since this is a lifting site, I thought it would be a funny screen name. But only a few people have picked up on it. (pilots). Most people assume I am a drag queenI hold a commercial and instructor rating in helicopters and used to own and run a helicopter business (among other things)

I am still trying to figure out what I do for a living every day. I have been self employed since 23. My business has been mainly construction oriented. But I also invest in realestate and have a bunch of rentals.

What I do every day, is I design custom houses. I GREATLY simplified my life in 2010. Used to have 50+ employees and ran myself crazy. Since 2010, it is just me. Clicking a mouse on my own every day. Work from home and lucky enough I live in a great country where a college dropout can do OK for themselves.

Life is good, and always unpredictable. SO many opportunities have come my way when I least expect it. I am really into cars. At a meet I met a guy and now I am drawing the head of a major auto manuf NASCAR teams 4 mil dollar home.

This is what is on my screen right now. I love just plotting my way thought life. Pretty cool!

Getting ready to take my wife out to lunch. We never got an anniversary dinner since my son had soccer practice. Have not driven one of my really cool cars in a few weeks, beautiful day to take it out for a lunch run. No flex. Just really cool and truly thankful that I can do it. I think this one is leaving me soon so only a few more times to enjoy it!

Not that I really care about reps, but never be jealous of others. So much of how you receive and feel about life is the perspective in which you take it. The same thing some might look at as terrible, may actually be looked upon as a great opportunity by others.

I have been through some pretty 'bad' things in my life. But I never once looked at them that way. In fact, I now look back and they were some of the BEST things that ever happened to me.

I'll lay out a few.

At 27y.o. I designed and built my first home. My (now) wife and I did it together. We put off our wedding to build our future home. I paid for it all out of my pocket. I never took out 'builders risk' until a friend asked me about it. I was young and did not realize the risks I was taking. The home would be worth about 1.2mil but I was trying to save money and only took a policy out for about 1/3 of that. We were about 5 weeks from finishing it. I got a call at 5 am from a friend and the home was engulfed in fire. It was a total loss. Home fires are usually looked upon very suspect. But the insurance company looked at my finances and I had plenty in reserves to finish the home AND I only stood to recover 1/3 the actual value because I under-insured the property.

So that single day, I lost the investment of almost a year of my life and about $800k.

Turned out, it was a great thing. I stopped worrying about having every in order before I got married and we planned our weddding and then built another home. This time, my wife was more involved in the design and we overcame it together. Took another year of our lives, but looking back, it was all for the best.

So another one. In 09 I was almost killed in an aircraft accident. I suffered a broken neck and frontal brain injury. Amnesia for a while and short term memory issues which all in all took me a year to recover from. On top of that the economy collapsed. I shut down all 3 of my businesses and had no work for 3+ years and zero income.

In the end, that day was the single BEST day of my life. It gave me a perspective that there is no such thing as a 'bad' day, just some that are not as great as others. I also discovered the ability to be present. I was there every day to see my kids get on the school bus and get off. I lived at home with my wife 24/7 and she helped me regain my life back with a strength and compassion you can never imagine until you have been cared for like that. I had lived my entire life never being happy or fulfilled. I was driven, but NEVER satisfied. I had all kinds of 'stuff' but no true happiness. I loved my kids and my wife, but could not even just be present enough to enjoy them.

I greatly simplified my life from that day forward. I pretty much swore off any material things and lived a very simple and content life. I moved out of 9000sf home into a 'normal' neighborhood where my kids could run to their friends house(s). I Got rid of the g-wagen and bought a mini van and LOVED it. I learned to love each day of life. I also learned that my true happiness in life has ZERO connection with material items.

It is also the thing that got me BACK in the gym and taking care of myself. I am now almost 50 and still in decent shape for a guy my age. (or any age really)

So I was always a little nervous I might go back to the way I was, but I never did. I still workout 4x/week. And I now allow myself to enjoy some nice 'stuff' but I share it with my kids. Cars are a great example. It is really my wife who convinced me to buy my first Lambo. She wanted me to. She said, you have worked hard your whole life and enjoy a little again. So I have had a couple now and got into tracking cars with my son...etc. It is not about the cost or the cars, it is the great experiences I have gotten to have.

Anyway....never be jealous. Look at all the awesome things around you and great people. Allow that into your life and find ways to be motivated by it. Life is good man! Never overlook that or you will guarantee your unhappiness and lack of success.

If your girl doesnt smile like that when shes with you, she doesnt really love you or want you. GJDM
"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Just out of curiosity OP, how much of a role would you say spirituality plays in your relationship and work related successes? Btw thanks for the inspiration. Seeing your story really makes me grapple with where I am in life and where I'm (hopefully) going.

Neither myself nor my wife are very spiritual people. We were both raised Catholic and my family is a typical Italian Catholic family and my family is very religious.

We have never had my kids baptized nor have we ever attended church. Kind of a hard thing wrestle with, but we wanted our kids to be exposed the the ideas of spirituality, but not force it one them. Both my kids are very smart and to be honest much of organized religion makes no sense. I did not want to encumber them on 'faith' and want my kids to approach the world with an inquisitive nature and discovery rather than just saying to them 'shut up and because I told you so'.

I dont specifically rule out spirituality. But I have had a very real near death experience and the man next to me was killed and there was NO way I should have ever survived what I did. Like truly 1 in a million chance of me living. Yet here I am. If anything would have changed my views, it would be that event. And it did not. (although my Mom swears it was God that saved meShe has pull with him!)

I very much believe there is much more to this world that what we can see with our senses. Whether that is just a advanced simulation, or the one of many infinite universes that exist in parallel with us, I dont know.

I love many of the ideas of organized religion. I just dont like the 'guilt' aspect. I live my live in line with many of the teachings but I have just always been a person who always felt a very strong sense of what was right and what was wrong.

A part of me wishes that I could believe more in the traditional religions, as I think it can be a GREAT resource for couples. We struggled for a while, and the christian faith really focuses on the bond of the husband and the wife and keeping it strong. We could have used that. We could have used some role models. My dad was a terrible husband and my wifes family does not share feelings openly. My wife and I had to find our path alone. It was not a great way to do it, but we made it.

But having outside support that supports your marriage rather than undermining it is important. I have great inlaws and they have never involved themselves in our business, and my family does not but in either. We lived many hours away from extended family so it has always just been me and my wife making it together without anyone to rely on. In 18 years, we have only spent 2 weekends apart from our kids. We never went away by ourselves as we had no one to watch our kids. We just made our lives about our little family.

The payoff now is we have two great kids who see what life is like in other peoples homes. We can talk freely as a family. My kids ACTUALLY take our advice and want us around. It is so awesome to have really. In many ways I feel like my own life ended when I had kids. It is way I did not really compete in powerlifting. I feel like I long had MY time and it is now my turn to follow my kids around and support their lives.

As they become young adults it is really a great thing to get to share life with them. This past year my son and I started tracking cars together. I think it is something we will do the rest of our years. We have never taken our relationship with our kids for granted. And as I say again, having an awesome wife really is the center of our family.

OP, unfortunately it's very difficult to find a decent woman these days. Western society has really screwed them up.

I agree though, good marriage > single > bad marriage.

Yea, I can kinda see your point. But lots of screwed up girls when I was younger as well. Went on to be materialistic women who put themselves before their families. Now many are old washed up whores.

In all fairness, lots of a$$hole guys too. Fuked every girl they could and cheated on their wifes and they are now lonly old fuks.

Look at where people come from. Look at their values. Look at the people they are. Humans have not changed much in core motivations, even in 2000 years. Read I Ching. Written almost 3000 years ago. Collection of Chineese writings on people and life. I read it in my early 20 and was amazed at how similar we all are and what motivates us.

Anyway, I digress. I believe they are out there. Not a lot, but they are. But as a guy you have to be worth it too. I always treated my appreciated my wife and put her happiness as my main focus, even when we were younger. I really am not that great a guy and with other girls I was never motived to do that. But with her, it was almost impossible not to want to do that. Some may say I was 'whipped' or guess 'cucked' is todays term. But I was always happy to try to make her happy and still am.

The great thing is she has never expected it nor taken advantage of that fact. We have never had a power struggle in our relationship. No one wears the pants.

I dont know. I do know that it is rare, but I think it is worth trying for. I almost got engaged to a girl before I got back together with my now wife. We dated for 3 years and she worshiped the ground I walked on. She was the best sex I ever had in my life and literally would do ANYTHING for me. She was also a wonderful person and very smart and hard working. I 'loved' her and thought, ok, this makes sense. This is the type of person you marry.

But I was wrong. I was not truly in 'love'. I cared for her. I respected her, but I was not crazy in love her. I thought that crap was just all stuff from being a kid. I know if I had gotten married to her, I probably would have cheated and I dont think I would have been a great husband to her. She just never made me feel like I wanted her happiness even more than my own.

When I got back together with my wife, it was like I was 16 all over again. I am 49 and still feel the same every day. If that is the message I could share it would be that. Dont settle. Better to be single. Or understand if you are entering into a partnership that is based more on sense than love. I guess that is OK too. But I have a friend in his early 60's. Married with 3 adult kids now. Married many years. He told me even today he still thinks of a girl who he wishes he would have married and never loved his wife they way he still loved this woman from his past.

When you find it. Hold on to it and understand it is worth any sacrifice. Best of luck young bro out there!

Just wanted to say it is not always bad. Married 21 years today. My wife is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We have had disagreements for sure, but never fought about the things that seem to really divide people. It has not always been easy, but it is worth it.

32 years ago, I took her to my prom. 11 years later we married and now 21 years later, I am still motivated to be a better man because of her.

Life is good when you find someone you are willing to put before yourself. Even better when they are worthy of it and give you the same in return.

I disagree with the way marriage is setup in the US today and how it benefits the person that cut the ties(women), more than person who formed the tie(men), along with other elements,

But it seems like you're one of the rare breeds on here when it comes to marriage(srs) 32 years ago, you took her to prom in 1990, which means you knew her most likely in the 80s before making her your GF in the mid 80s? You're almost 50, keeping yourself in shape, put your wedding off which your wife agreed upon to build your home and when you were at the brink of death physically and financially, your girl stood by your side against all of it and you came back with a better clarity on life.

It's highly unlikely in this dating age men will have someone like that. Again, Congrats.

Not reading this Autobiography, but I do have to pick this piece of low hanging fruit.

Agree with all that, including that humans haven't changed in their core desires or motivations.

But, I've thought a lot about this and experienced it through dating - and I believe that many women in modern society are not behaving according to their genuine desires.

Modern feminism, which effectively throws away "gender roles" as a valid concept, encourages young women to be like men.

These young women have been propagandized. The concept of the housewife has been demonized. They think they can have casual sex just like men, and there's no difference in the impact.

So yes I am 100% aligned with you on human nature. And that's the problem, society is almost fighting against it.

In my parent's generation a lot more people were marriage material. Women and men. But women have been negatively impacted the most.

@bando. What up man!? Good to see you. And damn straight. I had more cases of blue balls than I can count back then. My buddies all busted on me and were getting laid left and right. But I certainly am not feeling bad about the choices I made back then. Slutty girls are a lot of fun for sure. Just not the ones you want to marry.

Hope all is well.

Interesting and I can see your point. Being a woman is hard. That is why I say look at their families and what is important to them. My wifes mom was a mom as well and her dad Airforce. VERY family grounded.

Look for those girls who have an unmistakable bond with kids. You DONT want to marry a girl who is not a natural mom. My sister in law is TERRIBLE and could not wait to go back work. My wife does not understand where she gets it, but she has shared thoughts with my wife that actually bothered her.

I just think it is hard wired in some to be that way. I can remember recognizing when I was young. I was very attracted to that quality in her. I did not understand why I liked it so much, but I do now. It is just a beautiful thing.

I am sure they are out there. Probably not many willing to admit it today. But as a man, you have to be man enough to support that if the girl wants to raise kid and you have to find a way to make it work. If I look over the time my wife has been a mom, even post tax money would be like an extra 1,000,000+ in money we never would have needed and could have saved. That is not insignificant. I was very lucky and did well much of my life, but there were times it was not so great, and I never once made my wife feel like she has not contributed. I have spent a lot of time making sure she feels valued as it is an incredible sacrifice.

Congrats OP. Chad, beautiful family, mogging financially, and awesome house designs. I live in a 1960s flat roof home (Palm Springs style) and really have an affinity for that design. GJDM, happy to see a miscer making it.

You are drastically understating the change in women's values today vs 20-50 years ago

If I had to put a number to it I'd estimate around 90% of women had good morals and family values in the 50's/60's and 10% acted like complete trash

in 1990's-2000's I'd estimate around 50%/50%

today in 2022 It's probably around 90% act like complete trash, and 10% still have good morals and family values

Happy for your success man, but don't downplay the social changes that have occurred in the last 20 years

Shutting this down.

The extreme positivity, philogyny, love, and pure intellect a lot of you "men" post here daily truly makes me cringe Irl.

The reality here is: OP found a woman he loves and wanted to marry. Did it in a conventional venue, and was a success. Jokes for him! Don't be such a positive ******* for the sake of being a bro...

The insane amount of comments supporting women also has to stop. I'll begin mass banning for those comments when I see them. So knock it off.

OP has more life experience than the vast majority of the misc, with the average age being around 22, and knows his relationship better than anyone here. Who the fuk are you to lift him up? Get a life. Truly.

OP. I wish you the best of luck. It sounds like you've made a mistake.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Definitely no on botox or stuff like that. My wife is a very simple girl. For 47 I think she looks great. Just lives a simple healthy life, no smoking, not a lot of alcohol..etc. Of course she is not in her 20's any more, but neither am I. I would say we were both attractive in our youth. I am becoming that old italian guy look. All the men in my family were totally bald. I am still holding on to most my hair, but at 49 there is some thinning and I have about greyed out completely on the sides. She has always been the more attractive one but I think as a couple we made sense. But I am amazed at how she has taken age with grace. She also always kept herself in shape whereas I let my self go for about a decade into my mid 30's before getting back on track.

This is pic of us on a sum morn. No make up, just simple. I am becoming the old italian guy but she just has a glow about her, and still pretty good for her age. We both are comfortable getting older. I really dont care if she gets wrinkles or shows age. I still think she is very pretty. All part of life but I have no complaints.

In my late 30's I was still looksmaxing....now not so muchI really dont care though. I am comfortable getting older. That pic is dated by the Droid X phone so probably 2009/10

I will give my wife credit for that for sure. But on a cool note, both my kids are now lifting. My daughter has been training on and off a few years.

My son took a while, but now just turned 15 and has been working out about 3 months are doing GREAT. Now banging out 17 pullups. Starting from one only a few months back. This is the best thing to pass on stuff to your kids!
