Sober/Recovery thread?

I was wondering and looking; is there a specific sub forum or thread that is recovery based? I know there’s other forums and whatnot out there, but I’d love for us miscers to share our victories in recovery from anything. And even to share victories about even cutting down.

Dont be my mom who relapses every 3 months and ends up oding each year then the hospital, then rehab.

You're probably looking for some other type of response but from a family members perspective it gets old after the third relapse....we just don't care anymore and expect the death. We have our own problems.

Sorry to be a downer, I'm about to visit her in a few hours after a year of no contact and your thread title triggered me.

there are quite a few threads on it, but no sub forums.

Keep talking about it man. They will come out of wood work.

Alcohol is literally poison crew.

haven’t had a drink in years. it was pretty easy for me to change my perspective on it a few years after college.

The way we worshipped it and could t have fun without it. so toxic man. all the fights, conflict, lack of progress in all areas of life.

I feel like I had it pretty easy as far as quitting. I have no desire to drink anymore. In fact, I have a positive desire to be sober.

alcohol serves no positive purpose in my life. So like a bad habit (quite literally), I dropped it.

good luck man. srs

What's it like being alcoholic?

I've considered it as a form of LDAR to hopefully pass through this existence and maybe just become a homeless wino.

My phone is being an ******* able quoting multiple loads and on the bus to a recovery cafe, so I'm gonna do this the old fashioned way lol.

Scramfranklin: hell yeah dude I will have to check that out, thank you for the suggestion. I get involved in some of the recovery subreddits. /R quitting keaton is good too. And yes on most forums there are examples of doing well in recovery and life and also examples of being doing extrémy poorly and being in their own personal hell.

metroids:hey metroins I'm sorry for your loss as well as being sorry for triggering you. I totally understand your perspective! It does get old after a while, but that's addiction for you. Have you done any al-anon meetings?

Ironman let: thanks for the good luck! I'm glad that you were able to quit pretty easily! I agree with you that it is a poison and can cause so damage to people and society in so many ways. The inhibition that it gives makes people do tons of dumb ****, myself included. It can cause overdose and death and the withdrawals can result in death as well if it's not medically treated

8eggs: it ****ing sucks lol. I'd elaborate more, but I just got to the cafe.

Maybe I should ask the mids if we could create a subforum or at least sticky a recovery thread in the misc. I think it would be beneficial to many.

I’m 4 years sober this October.

Everyone always says it’s so hard to stay sober but if you do the rewards mentally and physically are unreal.

Staying sober has been extremely easy, still not seeing rewards. Whatever, don’t miss drinking and don’t ever plan on drinking again.

Sober crew checking in.

Enough was enough. Alcohol no longer added value to my life so it was time to hang it up.

Had a wild ride filled with booze substances and sloots but the times come. Realized I’m not someone who can drink just one or two.

Three spirit is a great cocktail alternative.

Curious what everyone else drinks or unwinds with now. I’ve got some kava, kratom and phenibut I take occasionally.

This thread is probably the most active:https://forum.obnoxiousbrutes.com/showt...hp?t=112883921

Would you like to create a Sobriety / Recovery thread? I think it'd be helpful and I can stick it.

Sorry to hear. You do anything with ACA or Al-Anon?

Exactly. I legit recoil now, though I used to play fuk fuk games and smell what my people were drinking lmao. Life is so freaking great now that I'd be a real r-slur to mess things up for myself. And nice job!!!!

Sparkling water or non-alcoholic kombucha. I also genuinely enjoy having a cocktail, as long as I'm spiritually fit to do so.

Good on you man! It takes a lot of insight and strength to come to the conclusion that you just can't drink (or in other's case do drugs or certain activities). Be careful of the kratom and phenibut (they are all nice including kava; if you've never been, I highly recommend trying to go to a kava bar.), but I abused too much kratom and a bit less abuse with phenibut. I'd get withdrawal symptoms from phenibut after stopping, which were like traditional GABA receptor drugs like alcohol and benzos. The kratom was a bitch for me to quit; withdrawal was miserable and I'd cave in and buy more just to stop them. However, I was taking around 75g a day, give or take a little. Nitrous oxide was the thing that really ****ed up my life though; I went into a manic state which eventually progressed to a manic-psychotic state filled with lots of paranoia. So, I lost my job and nursing license. I kept abusing it to the point where I suffered nerve damage and for a few weeks I couldn't stand and balance, let alone walk. I'm incredibly blessed to have slowly, but surely, recover 99%. Small use is okay, but I consumed tens of thousands of them in about a four week period. As you can guess, I just go HAM on any substance, so I need complete sobriety.

Keep at it and eventually you won’t even think about it. Im 2 years sober and alcohol doesn’t even cross my mind. It’s rough up to the one year mark and be prepared to lose touch with many friends. Alcohol is poison and lowers test, literally a cuck drink. You got it chief

Thank you!! And congrats on 2 years, that is super awesome! I've had my whole old behavior life obliterated; I lost pretty much everything and fortunately I didn't and of course still don't gave friends who use. A significant problem for me was social isolation, especially while drinking and using drugs. I am currently living in a shared sober living house and I'm so thankful. We have a tremendously strong recovery community where I live, so I've been getting myself involved in that as much as I can. Additionally, I do a variety of meetings a week; AA, SMART Recovery, and I was recently invited to join a quitting kratom group. Thanks for the advice and support!

Thank you I wasn't aware of that thread. Yeah! Honestly, having a sobriety/recovery thread stickied would be awesome! And also, not limited to recovery from drugs and/or alcohol. Recovery can also be from abuse, mental illness, and trauma. I think it would help many of us, at least it would help me. Having a place to share accomplishments, but also to post about bad days or lapses/relapses for advice and support. And your kombucha suggestion is awesome. I like it because you get that carbonated, fermented experience. And apparently it's good for you lol.

Trigger warning, these are two pics of empty nitrous oxide cartridges. I wanted to post this because it blows my mind on a daily basis as to why I’m not dead or at least permanently physically and/or mentally disabled.

Thank you everyone for all of the kind words, advice, and support

Have had problems with booze, off and on for a long time now but I think my brain is finally on a subconscious level starting to associate alcohol with the negative things it causes like withdrawal and insane anxiety when not drinking. So tired of not sleeping and feeling like chit at all times except for the relatively small part of the day when I’d get wasted. Hoping sobriety sticks this time around, especially since now I feel like I want to cut it forever instead of thinking maybe I’ll drink again on special occasion or vacation or something, which always inevitably leads to being right back at the bottom. You really do have to rewire your brain to kick a reward habit like that and it takes a while for it to somewhat stick, though those paths in the brain will always be there…

You just described my experience. Mine culminated with finding my buddies body after he shot himself, the anxiety from the booze and buddies suicide is what led to me going sober, I swear I had some ptsd along with the alcohol withdrawals, couldn’t sleep right for months and was constantly waking up panicking. Pretty much felt like i was in a nightmare for a year.

I'm sorry you had that experience, but that's withdrawals for you. Yes, you definitely rewire the brain and I strongly believe it's good to keep in mind that your isn't going to fully heal over. I wish you luck in your recovery.

Just be careful with kombucha. I've known some folks who've relapsed on it, and it does contain alcohol unless you specifically look for non-alcoholic/alcohol free ones, like the Whole30 certified brands.

Make that thread and I'll take care of sticking it

Yes I agree, it can be a trap. I appreciate the warning!

Well here's what I came up with. It would be awesome to have a place here where we can help each other.

Not for alcohol but probably need to recover from depression at the moment... starting with better eating and sleeping.

Went a few times to both. Adult children of alcoholics was weird. Al anon wasn't for me. I did my talking in therapy and got over it. I have my own daily life decisions and can't be bothered with my mother's addictions.

My cousin OD'd and died on vacation due to ******** laced heroine two years ago. His daughter found him at 5am.

I probably shouldn't be in this thread, I have no spare feelings for addicts.

Going to bed soon, but wanted to get in on this thread for later.
