not to mention - f**ked up hips, knees, ankles, joints, etc. when you're older from all of the pounding and pounding running - requiring replacement surgery. humans did not evolve to run for these distances. lift heavy objects, short sprints, and slow walks.

it's completely false that humans did not evolve to run long distances/endurance.

In fact, it's the complete opposite of what you are saying. We absolutely did not evolve for sprinting, hence why we suck at it so badly

where in the wild history did man have to run 26 miles at once?

no - it was long slow walks tracking game and then short sprints to catch it.

running marathons is asinine and it's no wonder we see all of these Boomers needing knee and hip replacements. running only became popular in the 70s.

we evolved for endurance is what I'm saying.

and it doesn't matter wheter or not running only became popular in the 70's. Doing low intensity cardio, in the aerobic range, is very important... hell, even 800 meter races have a very large aerobic component, hence why Peter Snell worked up to 100 miles/week of building an aerobic base to train.

I don't see evidence that boomers needing hip and knee replacements are due to them running. In fact, people (including boomers) are moving much less than we historically have.

Runners have LOWER rates of knee osteoarthritis than sedentary people. It's a outdated myth that running is bad for you knees

Nah I think they're cool. I see some of you guys mention some cringe things they do, but at the end of the day they're off their asses and doing physical work to the extremes... While the rest of society gets lazy and fat.

I run 6 miles 3 times a week and I like to think I do it more for the cardiovascular benefits and the mental clarity it brings me but another part of me thinks that I'm a masochist that wants to metaphorically run away from my problems.

Running my first ever marathon next year srs. Full 26 miles.

Mainly because all my brahs signed up to it for charity, not a huge fan of running but want to try a new challenge.

Already started training, just 3-6 mile jogs to pace myself then slowly build up. Tbh it gives me a great high endorphin rush to the point I'm starting to enjoying it now.

26.2 is definitely overkill, but running has its place in any health routine. Unfortunately most people into lifting are lazy so they cope by claiming they are trying to save their knees/hips.

I’d rather run 4-5 miles a few times a week than starve myself. Not to mention running increases your VO2 max which helps you move more weight and get stronger

Inactivity leads to health problems more. I know older distance runners and triathletes in good shape.

Running is amazing I dunno what you're talking about.

Trail run out in nature with a breeze and some sunshine will always beat an air conditioned gym imo.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.
