The fund manager I work at is up YTD. We don't lose money. We protect on the downside and focus on reducing vol.

Yeah we're never up as much as them as well.

You're an extremely disciplined guy with a long term outlook. The problem is most investors are not so they need funds to help them stay invested. Using products that help protect on the downside help people to stay invested. People lose money by panic selling or when they need liquidity.
