Bad. Riding the coat tails of Yellowstone down to the choice of soundtrack music, with a “sci-fi” twist.

I’m two episodes in and it’s interesting enough. The music is good and so far less cringe than Yellowstone. I just have no idea what’s going on.

I like it, it doesnt hide the show is about, you see the "mystery" in the first episode. First 4 were good, next 2 were meh, havent seen the rest yet.

I would still give it a recommendation to watch.

this show is amazing, may be ahead of its time. Very philosophical and challenges a LOT of beliefs. It has a lot of deep meaning/metaphors and also a lot of really cool time jumping/sci fi aspects.

Josh Brolin doesnt do bull**** roles in bull**** movies and if he signed on to do a show you bet its going to be good.

Honestly dont know how people say its bad unless they are totally missing the context of the show

If you are like me and like beautiful cinematography and unique new science fiction ideas without having to go all outer spacey and LOTs of philosophical/existential ideologies this is the perfect show for you.

I really laughed at how the one poster said "blue balling" because I never thought of that before.

Lots of "fantasy" shows have no real plot like X-Files, Lost, and countless other ones. They create a fake mystery that is never answered and the idea is to give you blue balls!

What a great way to put it.

I just watched the next to the last episode and none of it is that good.

All the actors are very good and some really famous, so I don't know how they ended up in this.

Mcguffin: An object or a device in a story that serves only to trigger the plot.

That's a cheap story device.

For instance, there can be a movie about people hunting down and fighting about a "mysterious package" and so there's all of this action and weird behavior, but the cheap writer never explains what the package is that makes them act that way. If he had to explain then the package would have to have a very amazing explanation. But, the writer doesn't explain because he can't really think of an amazing package that would make people go crazy.

That's what this show is about.

There's a science fiction/fantasy object in this and it drives the story but has no reason for existing.

In addition, if any of us actually found this object it would cause a very severe freakout in most people. Also, in the story there's mysterious people, other objects, murders, etc and almost no one freaks out or acts like anything unusual is happening.

People will have a weirdass encounter, then got have a beer or go to sleep.

I am watching just out of duty to see the end, lol.

Quality shows:

The Last Kingdom

Banshee

Both are some of my favorites.

I just watched Ozark and I wanted everyone to die, but it's a good show for the writing and overall message. I hate shows with sociopaths as the main characters but the message made it not about that.

did you watch and absorb fully every episode? After watching the last episode I dont see any blue balling or great mysteries. I mean its the first season obviously any great show isnt going to leave you without tons of questions after season 1?

did we have 0 questions after the end of game of thrones season1? breaking bad season 1? Battlestar galactica?

Its a sci fi western, I would relate it very closely to the remake of Westworld

Edit: I see you just watched the next to last episode. Finish the whole thing then make a judgement.

Remember Game of Thrones was basically garbage until s1e9, some things take time to build and create a bigger story. I think Outer Range is doing a great job at not putting too much into season one and creating a plot line that can be really good for multiple seasons.

Spoiler!
the only thing that i was annoyed with was that it was obvious the blonde girl was the main characters grandaughter right away, I told my wife at the end of the first episode "that girl is going to be Josh Brolin's grandaugher from the futue in the last episode" dead srs

Spoiler!
the point when Josh Brolin told the story about how he found the hole and seeing the clothes not match up with his mom and sister was a pretty cool reveal

I am very good at paying attention.

Did you read what a McGuffin is though?

If you did and want to know more, then google it.

Once you know what a McGuffin is, it can ruin a lot of TV and movies. TV shows use it a lot.

I accidentally read your spoiler and don't care, because the show isn't really about anything as the "hole" is a pointless McGuffin. So, it doesn't matter who the girl is because it doesn't matter what the hole is.

No matter how many seasons there are they will never explain what the hole is. God is not going to show up and explain why he made the hole, or whoever did. So, it's a mysterious hole that exists to have relationship drama on a TV show based on nothing.

With that being said, I like the actors so it's not terrible. However, without the actors I think the show would not be okay.

I added it to "my stuff" on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago.

There're plenty of good shows available so haven't watched it yet.

I'm looking forward to watching it.

Bout 5 episodes in and I enjoyed it at first, but my interest is waning now.

I think the main problem with shows of this type is that the pay-off, i.e. the mystery reveal, always falls short of the build-up and is ultimately a massive let down.

yall are too focused on the result instead of the adventure, not surprising as most people are now. If thats all you watch TV for to see reveals at the end thats a horrible way to enjoy anything in life.

I dont care what a "mcguffin" is, art isnt about following things like that. True art is about more than that and if you are going to be fixated on something so small and insignificant as a tool they used for entertainment and ASSUMING that they did so intentionally and it doesn't serve a greater purpose is kind of silly and just makes you overly critical and enjoy things less and miss bigger pictures.

They need to hurry up and get another True Crime season released.
I binged watched the first 3 during the Holidays and forgot just how good those were.

Would like to see a quality season of Westworld that wraps everything up but I think it's probably beyond repair at this point.

A McGuffin tricks us into enjoying adventure that has no point.

If there's a reason for the hole then it's not a McGuffin and it's a real story, if not it's just pointlessness.

For instance, the rich rancher dad who is sick, they had the actor dancing around and acting weird, but there's probably no reason. They just told the actor to do that and fill time in the show.

The Bubble:

That's a show I thought was about a McGuffin, but I was wrong!

I read that it came from a Steve King book and the Bubble was like a Star Trek episode about some alien kid having fun with a town of humans by putting it under a force field bubble. So, whatever happened in the story was about everyone being out of control due to some whimsical unknown person.

That's a real story although it's weak.
