Greek cringe man defends his title. Seems to be finding his footing on his fav surface where his chitty BH defense isnt as much of an issue. His slice has improved rather well too.

Id rank Tsitsipas as the favorite for RG if novak keeps his current form up and Nadal is out of form/ injured too.

Back in 2017 when he had his dip and elbow injury and people were quick to count him out, I said he would come back to the top, now with the field getting stronger and him being 35 I think the writing is on the wall, too early I know, but I will make that bold prediction and live with the consequences, come at me. lol
Will be interesting to see if this is the case and he takes a more aggressive approach like Rafa has throughout the years.
Rafa still defends with the best of them but knows doing it point after point is no longer a recipe for success due to the toll it takes on his body/gas tank.

Djokovic grinding into form brahs. Pepper that anus because that lanky fuk is going in dry soon. I doubt he will win RG but I really fancy his chances on grass where he has reigned supreme the last few years.

Meanwhile Carlos wins another 500 on clay. 3 Tournies won so far.

Swiatek has also won another one and has now won 4 tournaments in a row. Doha, IW, Miami, Stuttgart. 23 Matches unbeaten.

Clear as day that Djokovic is lacking confidence.

The last thing he wants now is to run into Alcaraz, Tsisipas or even Ruud. It will be interesting how he performs from here on, especially at RG.

I'm worried the foot may be flaring up now.

He looked super slow and sluggish out there today, if his movement is hampered his confidence plummets (understandably), and that's what I saw today.

I hope the foot behaves for the rest of the CC season and doesn't bother him too much.

Not often you see Nadal outplayed on clay. Alcaraz is the real deal. Racking up those Top 10 wins with no fear unlike the nextgen flops before him.

Respect for the restrained celebration. He knows Nadal isn't 100% and he's got bigger fish to fry.

I wouldn't read too much into this win from Alcaraz. srs

Nadal coming back from injury, playing his worse clay tournament, and I'm not into conspiracies, but it looked to me like he kind of tanked that match. He did not run almost any balls, super weird I hope it's not the foot.

Zverev was complaining about the scheduling and going to bed at 4 and 5am back to back.

If true that's brutal on the body, especially at this level of required physical and mental performance.

The field on clay has been sub par for nearly 20 years. Very few clay specialists.

Maybe, now just hear me out, maaayybe one guy has been some utterly dominant on clay that he hasn't allowed anyone else to get wins on it, thus how would you recognize a "clay court specialist" if he isn't winning clay court tournaments?

I remember some guy named Coria who was considered a "clay court specialist" and baby Nadal retired him from professional tennis.

Clay isn't as competitive for the top players. Federer and Djokovic have been more consistent on clay than Nadal on grass.

Look at Nadal's 2012-2017 period at Wimbledon where he couldn't reach the second week. Without all those servebotting grass specialists it would be a different story.

Lost in the 1st round of RG which is now his 10th loss in a row. He last won a match one year ago in Rome. Currently ranked 190.

2012-2014 saw him struggling with knee tendinitis/ injuries and 2015 was his worse career year, 2016 he didn't play with a wrist injury that saw him withdraw from RG.

Clay is one of the most played surfaces on the planet, in fact clay is more abundant in Europe and even South America. What is the excuse exactly? Grass is in fact the niche surface, and Nadal was unreal on it (dethroning the grass GOAT on his prime) until his knees forsaken him.

Fed and Djokovic ARE CC specialists indeed and would have 4-5 RGs each if it wasn't for the freak of nature that is Nadal on clay.

AGAIN, there have been PLENTY of CC specialists in the last 15-20 years, they haven't won more because of a guy named Rafael Nadal.

I think he is done.

Not everyone can bounce from injuries/ long lay offs like the big 3, even Djokovic struggled to come back when he had his one and only come back, Fed struggled on his second come back and we haven't seen him since.
