As a property developer I would be happy with “normal” profits

That is, a sale price that adequately compensates the architects, engineers, building contractor and subcontractors for their expertise and work; as well as providing me a return on my capital that reflects the effort and (minimal) risk

What we have now is not good for the long term health of the economy

Idk

Most seem pretty happy to take the money

As things are I need the stupid sale prices to bankroll the next block of land/sale taxes

I just sometimes feel bad for the buyers

I’d be happy to receive an efficient market clearing price

True. And excessive regulation and distortionary tax policies subvert that efficiency.

Our problem is we have two separate layer of government - state and federal - that directly profit from high property prices.

Guess I’ll just take the profits while I can and let everyone else figure it out.

Real Estate is disconnected from reality. The mortgage market is essentially nationalized in the US now, so it's just a ton of money going into an industry that can't really fail.

Maybe that’s the reason. Economic progress was intended to have us working fewer hours at higher productivity, so they create this debt trap to force people to earn more and more and grind harder just to end up worse off than previous generations

Well aware of what is happening in Aus. Problem is your government has put all of its eggs in one basket being the housing industry and now is forever trying to prop up the housing bubble or else the economy will collapse.

I don't know why you clowns entertain this guy. It's basically another SS.

He's just a boomer with several million dollars. Same as my parents, same as my friends parents. Australias are just rich from that generation. But at least my loser parents don't feel the need to show off about their portfolios on some gay Indian bodyboarding forum.

Rojirra is the Australian equivalent of the guy who finally takes his wife to Hawaii after working 40 years as a accountant, and takes secret snaps of girls in bikinis with his fat wife looking on in disgust, then brings out his 401k app at parties to talk about it. Gojirra is the Australian version of that.
