Cop kills suicidal man, gets 25 years. Mixed opinions. Thoughts?

Cliffs:

- A suicidal man has police called on him, has a gun pointed at his head while sitting on a couch.

- 2 cops show up, guns drawn, and are trying to de-escalate the situation, talk to the man, are being nice, asking questions, very compassionate.

- 3rd cop shows up aggressively with a shotgun, 11 seconds after stepping into the house, kills him.

- Gets 25 years (rightfully so)

- The gun was never pointed at the police, although I do understand the nature of the situation and quickly things can go south.
He said that after he ordered Parker to drop the gun, he heard Parker say no and saw him shrug and shake his head. Darby testified that when Parker shrugged, his gun moved. He also testified that Parker “made eye contact,” a move that Darby said he interpreted as a threatening behavior, a signal of “imminent” danger.

Cops need more restraint, if they are willingly taking the job and making 100k+, they need to be able to deescalate situations other wise they can get fuked in jail like this guy

From what I understand he was sitting on the couch with the gun at his head, face to face with the cops. So theoretically the bullet would have gone side to side rather than at the police

this.

also they typically have so much backing by other cops (even those not on the scene). I had a friend who is a cop and he said he would never go against another cop.

I mean the guy wanted to kill himself.... Why is the cop going to prison?

Im tired of seeing cops go down for retarded people. Killing some guy who is minding his own business - then sure jail the cop.... But this guy who died isnt some top tier contributing member of society, so who really cares?

He deserves 25 years in prison. A lot of police have gotten away with so much murder and violence and theft it is nice to see that once in a while an actually guilty cop gets punished.

That gay blue line means nothing in court
Darby and his defense team have cast blame for the shooting on Pegues, saying she put herself and the other officers in danger by talking to an armed man without having cover

bro lol this is not as black and white as you make it seem

if he really truly wanted to die he would have just blown his head off without the police there.

sometimes people need help without wanting to ask for help, the first 2 cops were doing good.

rambo showed up and got himself 25 years lol

Heres an idea, if the police show up and ask you to drop your god damn gun 37 times, do it.

If he had no weapon, I would agree with you.

The suicide by cop guy is dead, which is very good. Using tax dollars to imprison someone is a big loss.

The rats wanted to blame this female cop because she chose to talk to him instead of blowing his head off

The department sent her and her partner to remedial training but stood behind the now convicted murderer.

I don’t disagree with you but Huntsville has an ad up for officers and they start at 49k

If the officer was acting in accordance to his training, I just can't see this officer's sentence holding up. Its interesting to me that the mayor, the police chief, the city and police department all stood behind the officer. It's unfortunate, but I can't e this as a bad shoot.
