Having guns makes everyone safer overall.

Knee-jerk emotional reactions help nobody and make everything worse.

In the Texas case this isn't true. He waited until he was of legal age to buy the rifles and didn't have a handgun because he had to be 21.

And I don't have the links in front of me but my understanding is that states with stricter gun laws have lower gun-related stats.

You're jncapable of seeing how taking the AR-15 style weapons away from those not licensed to own them greatly reduces the chance of these events occurring as they are the de facto tool used for such attacks.

If they aren't legally allowed to own them they shouldn't have them. They are breaking the law.

U.S. has a much larger population compared to almost all of those other countries (besides India). If anything, that proves just how safe it is considering the population and the enormous amount of guns.

“There are no solutions, only trade offs” Thomas Sowell

In other words, everything has a cost. Chances are school shootings won’t decrease from the new laws, but what is guaranteed is an increase in crime elsewhere. In 99% of cases, the trade offs are worse than the original problem. You have to be willing to seek out and acknowledge those bad outcomes though. Otherwise, you have no virtue

Why do gun laws need to be changed over a school shooting when no one gives a **** about the massive homicide rates in Chicago and other major cities ?

Why is a school shooting the only type of gun death ameribrahs give a **** about? Even tho kids and teens die daily from gun deaths daily

Spoiler!
Those of us that do care, care about all the kids being killed. School shootings TARGET kids...gang violence often kills little kids who were simply bystanders.

But gun nuts don’t care because CHICAGO!!!!
According to the NWS Storm Data...

...in the last 10 years (2009-2018), the U.S. has averaged 27 lightning fatalities.
If we're just talking about numbers it would make sense for everyone to stay indoors, too. Nobody NEEDS to go outside.

These are some if the bigger ones, literally off the top of my head. IMO "since 1966" is kinda useless, it doesn't reveal any patterns or provide anything useful. Nothing between 66 and 89 is interesting as hell tho. Chit seemed to really open up after Columbine-which I think should be the focus of anybody wanting to get to the bottom of this.
Probably the coverage they got was really attractive to future potential shooters.

Because it's using statistical anomalies in order to justify forcing your personal beliefs on millions of people because you're prying on emotions...

Drunk driving kills around 10,000 people a year, hundreds being children. Easy solution is to make cars have an ignition interlock, at least requiring it during night time hours. No one is pushing for that though. There's tons of examples like this. It's not about saving lives, it's about political agendas and emotions.

Love scrolling through this thread knowing good and well which of you value freedom the most.

Freedom is the ultimate way to live. Sure, the cost of freedom is chitty from time to time, but you’d really want to live in the alternative?

Lol @ anyone of you who don’t recognize this.

^^ this is the flaw in your argument.

The United States has a population that represents both developed and developing nations.

You can't compare countries that have a homogeneous population to a country that does not.

If you want to combine Switzerland w/ a small African country along with a medium sized Latin American country and THEN compare stats...

...let's do it, ****ggot.

And when I say ****ggot, I mean it literally.

I feel like when stats are reported (eg. covid deaths) they need to be put in context with another relatable stat for reference so people can evaluate the numbers being presented in a relative way otherwise it is purely abstract.

Many numbers, especially with a large population like the USA, sound scary but compared with events like being struck by lightning, dying of flu or dying in a traffic accident in a normal year they might not be.

Yeah, the families of these victims are focused on political agendas. Give me a fkn break.

Again phgt, no one says "I want to take as many innocent lives as possible, let me go drink and drive."

We are seeing a rising trend of incel psychopaths (whose demographics are increasing at an unprecedented rate due to societal degradation) who openly admit to wanting to take as many lives as possible as quickly as possible, often with minimal effort, which is what we have with Sandy Hook and Uvalde.

Our response to these tragedies is truly a litmus test of our moral fiber and character as a nation, statistical anomaly or not. Once was one time too many, here we are 10 years later.

Cliffs:

- 27 "school shootings" [aka: a firearm was discharged at or near a school] so far in 2022

- 26 of these school shootings resulted in 0 or 1 death

- a mass shooting means 4 or more people were shot and/or killed; a mass shooting may have zero fatalities

- using this criteria there have been 13 mass school shootings since 1966

https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...sh-in-the-u-s/

- 54% of gun fatalities in the US are suicides

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tan...hs-in-the-u-s/

^^^
Some things to think on before deciding we need to "ban all guns" or bump up public schools to prison-like levels of armed guards and locked doors.
Half of those suicides were people who go sad after investigating democrat politicians
